Gesaffelstein and The Weeknd recently unleashed their collab together, which stirred up some initial excitement. Now, it’s making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The Weeknd’s lyrics have always been sexualized and graphic, but he may have taken this one too far. The singer is being called out for some controversial lyrics, as heard in “Lost In The Fire.” Particularly, there’s one verse causing debate for obvious reasons.

Basic synopsis: The Weeknd pursues a girl who is into girls, dismisses her lesbianism, and proposes a three way so he can fuck her “straight.” Yikes.

[Verse 2]
I’m tired of being home alone (Home alone)
I used to have a girl a day (Girl a day)
Yeah, I want you to stay (I want you to stay, hey)
You said you might be into girls (Into girls)
You said you’re going through a phase (Through a phase)
Keepin’ your heart safe (Keepin’ your heart safe, oh)
Well, baby, you can bring a friend (Bring a friend)
She can ride on top your face (Top your face)
While I fuck you straight (While I fuck you straight, yeah)

I’m guilty of listening to the song, even breezing through the lyrics, and not realizing that some of the message could be hurtful and offensive. Honestly, we wrote it off as a “Starboy 2.0” and had already moved on, but this is certainly a conversation that needs to be had.

Read some of the discussion going on via Twitter below.

“Lost In The Fire” Lyrics

Well done to @theweeknd for managing to deride, fetishise and dismiss lesbianism all in one verse. pic.twitter.com/iefdhs8ACw

i don't like cancel culture & i'm not saying "cancel the weeknd," but these are the kinds of lyrics that fucked me up when i was younger & subconsciously kept me in the closet. so it's important to talk about and say "this is isn't ok"

RT if you think the weeknd should take a weekend off to think about respecting a. sexual orientation b. women and c. himself https://t.co/Q3Fvea68pE

absolutely not here for @theweeknd's new song which is #1 on @Spotify's new music right now despite its blatant lesbo and biphobia https://t.co/HhyHuVpHh5
