REPORT: Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams Forced To Pay $5 Million In “Blurred Lines” Lawsuit

For years, there have been “Blurred Lines” between Robin Thicke’s viral track with Pharrell Williams & T.I., and Marvin Gaye’s classic single “Got to Give It Up.” Finally, a California federal judge has handed down the ruling in favor of Gaye’s estate.

According to Judge John A. Kronstadt’s amended judgment, via Billboard, Thicke, Williams, and Williams’ More Water From Nazareth Publishing Inc. are jointly required to payout nearly 5 million dollars for deemed copyright infringement and excess damages. The exact total: $4,983,766.85.

On top of everything, Gaye’s family will receive 50 percent of all “Blurred Lines” royalties moving forward.

A representative for Williams described the verdict as “extremely disappointing,” and a “horrible precedent” to set for “music and creativity.” He went on to say, “Pharrell created ‘Blurred Lines’ from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter.”

Apparently there are no “Blurred Lines” when it comes to copyright infringement. Still, it’s a bop.
