FabDJ Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I'ts murder on the dancefloor especially when your PC stalls ect. What do you guys use as a back up?I was thinking of having my CD on cue/ pause ready to go if I have a PC problem but if it is major I would have to CD DJ all night with a limited playlist. and not have time to reboot the PC.Or have a second old laptop with a terrible sound card cued to play with winamp. Crap cuts and poor sound quality but more available songs to play and easier than swapping CD's around. Quote
SourceRaver Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I was talking to Pill earlier and he uses a second laptop (maybe for the purpose you describe).Me...I would have my I-pod plugged into a spare channel on the desk with a cool mix already cued up. That way when you pooder spits the dummy, you just push play on the Ipod and bring up the channel fader. If you also throw in one of your legendary comedic quips on the mic, chances are no one will know what happened! Quote
FabDJ Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 Ta SourceHave tried that also but sounds more tinny than the old pc for some reason. carry the ipod and leads for 3rd backup and for anyone who wants to play their own stuff. No big deal really, died a thousand times on stage so a few more won't matter. pill Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Thanks for the reference source!Yeah I carry two laptops one with vdj and one with itunes running. I've never had a computer crash live but if it did happen it would take a few seconds to get the same song running back again. Also, the second pc is good for facebook/adjf when bored at gigs via mobile internet. And on that note, a second pc is good to buy songs from beatport, etc, if i am missing a song that lots of people request. That way I can preview it before I play it live too. Quote
FabDJ Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 Thanks Pill Will be upgrading the second pc soon, so two pc's it is. Quote
SourceRaver Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 The second pooder could also be good for showing a promo PowerPoint on a second screen (say in front of your Dj box and easy to do with an extended desktop). One of our work 'social' Dj's has a mobile internet connection and downloads music form I-tunes when requested. FabDJ Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Thanks sourceI want to do mostly house parties and be a small footprint DJ.Been to parties where the DJ takes up half the living room. Wrecks the party layout and pushes people outside, so they dont dance.I take up 6m sq. and need one wall 1m out.I want to fit all my stuff in a small car also as a van or station wagon for everyday use in sunny Queensland takes ages to air condition.
