A number of years ago I looked into getting a setup but I was young and poor. Now that I'm older and not as poor I'm looking into it again.

As far as the "why" (am I wanting to scratch) I'm an avid music player and I've been playing drums for 13 years guitar for 1 and blah, blah, blah and I'm looking for another dimension to add to my music.

I did a bit of research on turntables and I picked myself up a 2nd hand Stanton STR8 80 for $150 (I thought that was a good price) having learned that these were an acceptable beginner deck for scratching.

As far as mixers go though... I am completely utterly and totally lost... I know I need a fader that has an option to cut but... that's all I know, I don't know what mixers have this option, not looking to spend more then a few hundred on a mixer brand new, obviously I'd like something 2nd hand.

If anyone can help that would be AMAZING.

Thanks,

Mitch

The one thing i think you have to be careful of is that the turntables are magnets and not belt driven, from what I've heard belt driven is really is to break or wear out scratching, had a quick look through the stanton str8's but can't find a specification, with a name like stanton magnetics you'd think so but i wouldn't take it for granted.

sorry edit to the post above, its direct drive as given in the technical specs on the website, this being driven by magnets in effect your fine on the stantons :D just one to be careful of in future.
