Cymbals

Ok so my cymbal lines are ok. But some times are unexciting and a bit flat sounding.

is there anything that any one does that helps them sound a little bit more professional? So far I’ve put a light flange on some to give them that moving / evolving effect.

Haven’t done much panning with my cymbals yet and I’ve seen a lot of people of late talk about how important panning is with drums

Any advice, tips?

Pannin gis definately essential with drums, especially with cymbals and perc. I like to picture a drum set on a stage, you look at it, hats on the right, ride on the left and kind of pan it so its how you are looking at it, if that makes sense, its all about putting something it is own space, so you pan the hats slighty right, not a set rule and there is always room for experimenting, but I like to do that just for a base point. Panning is also really helpful for your mixdown, makes shit clearer.

As far as effects go, flanging is good, phasing, downsampling or bit crushing for some tone colour, but my favourite thing to do is use the subtile stereo preset in abletons auto pan, gives it some nice movement.

And of course groove, you cant beat groove :teef:
