Smoke machines do they set off smoke detectors

Hi there i did a gig in a large function room the other night. I have a small smoke machine i started to use during the gig. The bar manager asked me to turn it off as it may set of the smoke detectors. I complied with her request,  but im just wondering if the non toxic smoke these machines make would set of a smoke detector. Anyone know?

Yeah they do but you need a shit load of it to set one off. She’s obviously had some trigger happy people in there

Yeah, I always ask first... they can isolate the alarm for that room in some venues...

I've never had an issue with them, i used mine at my wedding in a small inclosed space with little ventilation at a restaurant my wife and i booked out and the alarms never went off.
