Hey guys,

As mentioned in my intro I'm pretty stuck at the getting a gig stage.

Every venue or promoter I've contacted either says 'we already have our agency/residencies' or nothing at all.

I've spent a bunch of time working on my social media presence to try make that as appealing as possible. But don't want to social media to go too crazy without actually having any experience playing live, and having no ability to get gigs. It would just leave me with a useless facebook page and not the result I want.

For a reference even though my ep has multiple different styles (for example, a couple of bangers, 1 future house kinda thing, and 1 nearly psytrance progressive thing. All are useable in a club within the same set, but effectively I'm not pigeon holing myself with an obscure genre that I think is superior.

please let me know what you think is the best place to get started.

It's always tricky trying to crack that first gig or coming back into the scene after some time away.

A few things that may help is to keep rocking up to venues, get to know the venue managers or promoters and put some money behind the bar. Also, bring as many mates as possible because that means dollars to those guys. You can join an agency. When I got back into the scene I had to join an agency and that helped a lot. They did know who I was and what I could do but I'm sure they'll wanna have a chat before they take you on so have some stuff prepared. Other thing is to enter DJ comps and get all your mates to come. This is the fucked up bit - the more people you bring the higher the chances you'll be looked at because it's all about the dollar. When I was judging a comp that was honestly one of the key factors. It's super political but it's the way it is. DJ comps are great exposure anyway. It puts you in the hot seat in venues you wanna play in and it'll give you a real taste of what it's like

Hey LabRat,

Thanks for letting me know that, I've started looking at booking agencies and so on.

Does anyone have any experience about getting gigs internationally? I've contacted a few clubs but managed to get no response. Does anyone know specifically what a promoter is (or might be) looking for?

Booking agents are also the best way. To play internationally, you have to be able to prove that you have a name and you can pull crowds because they're taking a massive gamble by replacing one of their residents for the night so keep that in mind. It helps knowing someone coz then they can pop in a good word for you and you might be able to get work that way
