SourceRaver
When I'm beatmixing, I compare the beat in one ear with the other and can tell when their out of synch. Some folks claim they can hear a distinct 'sound' when the incomming beat is slower or faster than the reference beat (apparantly its a slightly different sound depending if its faster or slower).Im interested in how you think your brain is processing the information?(yeah..im bored at work)
eggssell
i do the one ear method and usually have my mind not counting but going "doof doof doof" to the beat in my ear, and then my mind listens to the monitor to see if it goes, if not i start to adjust the pitch.i dont think i actually take note which is faster or slower and find about 40% i go the wrong way at first (yes i know i need lots of practice...ha ha).and i kind of just keep doing that "doof doof doof" in my head to the music in the ear until that rhythm seems to match the monitor. then my mind stops its doofing and i listen for double bass, double snares to fine tune.[its not really doof doof doof, but kind of but no real f sound, like replicating the kick drum]
LabRat
if im out of sync i hear the jungle beats (double beat) but to get it in sync i wait until i hear on solid beat. when i first started out i use to hear frequencies of the 2 bass tones clashing. thats when i didnt really know what to do lol
JonnyB
yeah i just listn for the kick doubling up if i go out of beat.and if it is a miniscule amount where you cant realy tell, i listen for the hats on the track im bringing in to see if they sound in time with the track playing, i find it a great tool, as hats are easy to tell if they are out of time just the smallest bit
