CBG
wow your not very prepared lol. You need to check out the club and find out what music they like, have a rough set in mind, fe new ones.. a lot of popular ones and a few classics.Bring a gd pair of headphones. I have CDs with only one song, them have the tempo and the key written on it.
LabRat
with cd's i have the ep title and the artist(s) of the ep. these have from 1 - 4+ tracks on it depending on the ep. this comes down to the rule, "know your tunes". i believe if you know your stuff you're set! also, if you've prepared a set and your using vinyl, mark (with one of those poker dot stickers) the LP's you plan to use so if you get lost into your set and dont know which tune come next. being your first set, might be alright to write down your set list on paper and hide it in your cd wallet for reference. i did that once. played out and had one of those moments where i went blank and didnt know what i was doing. you also want backup tracks. so if your set is an hour long then organise for an hour fifteen or an hour an a halfgood luck bro

lloydc
yeah, easy to write in big letters so you can clearly see whats on there. If you're not nervous, you're not concentrating IMOjust play what people want to hear, everything else will fall into place.how long is your set? CBG
One song on a CD isn't for everyone. I know a few Pro DJs that do it differently, I looked through Grant Smillie's wallet once and he had a couple on each, with 2 copies of every cd.The basic school of thought with only having one on a cd is that i can arrange them in musical key. So any cd's within the same area of my wallet, are gunna sound pretty gd together. Then I have the tempo and a one or two word description like: "EPIC", "LATIN", "DISCO", "FIDGET", "DEEP" etc.
dapimp
my first few gigs i planned the set b4 hand. the last thing u wanna do is mess up ur first gig. i play hardtrance and i even know how many % to speed up n down on my first few gigs so i dont mess upgood luck with it
JonnyB
k well as for cd's i have 2-3 tracks on each, i dont fully organise a set, i make litlle 3-4 mini tracks sets that go well together, and learn heaps of them, so i can drop a track, know what to do with the next few tracks, then on my last one, decide what next mini set list ill play. this is for our first gigs.eventually ill hope to be doing everything on the fly
dapimp
Also don't practice more than an hour on the day. Don't wanna go deaf during ur set

Skank
bruz with my cd's i put between 7 to 11 song on each place in wallet and print out a lil track listing for the sleve, then i high light bangers just incase its hard to read in the dark or just a quick way to find your best tuneshope it helps

CBG
I'd say don't think too much about it. Just do it, concentrate on getting that beatmatching perfect and your sweet. You don't need to pull out any Deadmau5 style 'songs on the fly' or anything liek that. Just do what you do in your bedroom and relax. I doubt you're playing in a club where the dancers critique every transition you do, or whether your songs compliment eachother whilst building emotions and energy levels...Just go for it!! Sorry there was far too much sarcasm in that post.. a few beers will do that.
NickGalea
pay attention to the room..look at what people want..my first gig i lost my headphone jack..i now carry a spare house party or club?i never have and never will plan my sets, it's all about reading the room & direction in a club.some plan & it works, do what you feel comfy doing.. honestly you will be shit scared, I was! write down your big tunes, or move them to the front of the cd wallet, tunes that will pack a floor, try not to play them all first! one after the other! you wont have anything to peek the room on, leave them something to remember you by.just think of it like having sex, you want to take your time till the climax...not be over before it begun lol..good luck. dapimp
but if the foreplay is too long u might go soft and no final action.
