What's the best gear to get for a radio show?

Something that can have multiple speakers on mics as well as the ability to have people on the phone and via the net to talk on-air.

Also needs to have DJ equipment hooked up to play music.

I know uni has a bunch of this gear but I doubt their setup is optimal.

Suggestions?

A real ghetto setup could be something like an S4 plus an external cheap mixer. The S4 would give 2 music channels plus 2 sample channels (could run pre-recorded ads or samples n shit through) plus a mic channel. Run the external mixer into the mix and have your miss plus phone in lines.

It has multiple analogue outputs (xlr and trs).

But probably only worth it if you already had it. A regular mixing desk would probably be better.

what i do for mine is run all my audio through the mixer, record out into the computer and also have the computer's audio going through 1 of the channels, same with the mic. my mixer is a DJM-800, not sure how much you're willing to spend on a setup but those mixers should be pretty well priced these days. they also have multiple monitors outputs available on them.

I would have thought something like this with decent mic pre amps and the ability to monitor your sources and cue sources separately from the actual program your recording would be what you want. In a real station you would have a custom desk that cues and plays your audio directly from the mixer and you can cue you next track up over the monitor speakers or head phones. When your talking on air you listen and mix your program over your headphones to stop feedback etc. I would use a mixer like this as a master mixer to control mic and overall levels with a separate dj mixer routed through one of the stereo channels. I use to dj on pbs and having a separate dj on decks and a dj mixer worked well as true radio desks are only good for a/b mixing and let's the presenter concentrate on the overall show with the dj using familiar equipment. 8)

Holy shit that mixer is awesome, that would be a hell of an investment.

As for mics I use the sure 58 which is the standard mic for all mc's and clubs, works really well and affordable

The sm58 is a pretty standard mic. I would've thought you'd want something more like condenser mic / studio mic for radio work.

I'd also recommend a mixer like cee posted. If your in a budget, behringer do some pretty decent ones now that won't break budgets

Next year when I get a job nothing in the world should be outside a budget.

I just want good gear and to start regular shows on ADJF Radio m8s
