Hello everyone.

I do need some help, as i am a dj for a corporate company i have all types of genres although im thinking i have 2000+ "electronic" songs and i need to start sort these. Im an thinking i may need to change the genre to a subgenre to help with mixing simular styles. Whats your method you use for labeling many, many, many diffirent types of subgenres and how do you make sure it has the corrent genre.

I feel i am rambling with this one as i get very lost.

I use iTunes for this and bridge across to rekordbox and traktor. So I create playlist folders and they are by main genre, or how I feel I can find them easier. For example I'll create a folder called house. In that folder I'll have different playlists as the sub genre. So for example I'll open my House playlist folder and inside I'll have Funky House, Disco House, Deep House, Future House, so on and so fourth. I will keep creating folders until my music is sorted, so, I could have another folder called Bass Music and inside that there will be Trap, Twerk, Footwork, Dubstep and so on

I pretty much do the same as Labrat. If you do it from the beginning it's quite easy to then just keep adding tracks to those separate folder when you buy to tunes off of beatport/Juno/iTunes store etc.

My missus is away tonight, so, while I'm cooking my pot of pumpkin soup, I plan on re-organizing all of my music (50,000+ tracks from 60's-Now with a bunch of different sub genre's). Safe to say it's going to be a long night, but I think if I maintain it (like I should have from day dot) it'll be easier to read/find tracks when mixing on the fly and planning playlists

That was what I was going to suggest, isn't everyone's classification of sub-genre's somewhat different. If it doesn't blatantly tell you when you d/l it I think its fair to interpret it however you see fit

Well i have decided to reference from Beatport and rename the genre.

This is 1 of those task where you are really keen to get started and then by the 3 hour mark and haven't even made a dent you get really sick of it. #-o

Well I will be powering though hopefully tonight as I wanted to start mixing the Dubstep mix for this month and also have to start my radio/podcast for the month.

here we go. someones gunning for oxy's crown :teef:

i was planning on genrifying my vinyl this weekend.

in terms of mp3s i use trainspotter and sub divide genres by feels. so things that kind of go together are in the same bucket

its a program that plays well with traktor and discogs.

i think it initially started with people ripping their vinyl could link the music file to discogs and all the tags would be fixed up.

http://www.tspotter.net/

it also lets you use the comments tags to be searchable fields in traktor.

so technically you can use complex multi search like hip-hop - chill down - sunset vibe and it will put all those you marked that way into a playlist
