davidkent11 Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Hey guysI've recently heard about a 'dj rule' that djs should never MC a wedding or event. I've been looking for other opinions and there has been some debate where some agree and some disagree. I was after everyones opinion whether its suitable/appropriate for the DJ to MC an event?ThanksDavid Quote
LabRat Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 i wouldn't call it a rule. heaps of dj's i know or have seen at functions MC at weddings. i think it's perfectly fine to MC at a wedding if you wish to do so. i'm not a particular fan of talking into a mic but i've MC'd as well as DJ'd at a few weddings back in the day. i think this "rule" is just from some dude who cracked the shits about doing it. Narukami Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 It's completely fine if the hosts are okay with you doing it. A lot of people enjoy my voice and they always ask me to make a announcements and stuff like that.As long as you're confident on the mic, then I say go for it. Quote
Mitch Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 It's OK to DJ & MC when:-The client is happy with that-You are good on the Mic-You are comfortable doing both It's not OK to DJ & MC when:-You're not fluent/confident on the mic-The client wants someone else Quote
BeatLeSS Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I think if you're confident enough and keen on MC'ing, then do it and make a little extra money! Quote
RichoKidd Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I rap and DJ at the same time.Sit their and scratch while spitting some fire! (dissapointed there is no fire smilie. Plox fix)As for DJing and MCing, I did it at a 40th and the crowd loved me!lololololol Quote
BennyBoi Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I only take wedding bookings from couples that require an MC too and that's around 45 weddings per year. I do lots of interaction with the wedding guests at their tables plus i play interactive games and its a big part of my wedding package. If your clients are looking for an upbeat and fun night, once you've got the confidence to do so there is alot more spontaneous fun to be back with the guests with a microphone Cupe 1 Quote
eggssell Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 its okay if you are a professional event MC and a DJ. the really good ones have particular skills, keeping momentum, not putting people to sleep, able to think quickly, very charismatic and engaging, etc. like really think of the times you have left a wedding (or event) and remember the MC, its only when they were good. on the other hand if you dont actually have MC skills leave it to just the occasional announcement like everyone sit down, or its time for this and its time for that, and the yellow beetle has left their lights on, we have a lost four year old looking for their mum.
