OxyKon Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Ok so i just had this idea, as a lot of us have our set genre of music that we mix, e.g. i mix mainly Drum & Bass, Mitch does mainly deep/tech house, Beatless has his glitch/breaks etc. What i propose is put your iTunes player (or whatever player you use) on shuffle and hit play on a track you want, and let the shuffler do its thing, each track that it pops up on throw that into a playlist and then you have to mix it, each mix should be a minimum of 30min each that way it's somewhat interesting to the listener. And if you wanted to take it a step further, don't keep it isolated to 1 genre, if you happen to have a playlist that consist dubstep, electro, hip hop, ambient, DnB etc. Try that instead.Once each person has finished a mix post it in here. OxyKon Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Oh i will say the playlist order does not matter, it can be in any order but you have to use all the tunes that are in the playlist Quote
BeatLeSS Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Holy I'm keen on this. I don't use itunes though but I'll throw all the tunes in a VLC playlist and make it random.I'm catching up with Jonesy tonight so might record it! Quote
OxyKon Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 maybe recordbox? VLC will work but you wanna grab a vast range of music and have it randomly select your tunes, i'm 12 tunes already in and so far i have DnB, Hip Hop, Breaks and Chillout, this is gonna be so random lol Quote
Kodiak Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Media monkey is a dope alternative to iTunes and it also plays flacs. And great idea. I might actually put my shit together and have a crack. But what genre to select? Quote
BeatLeSS Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Could always do multi genre. Most of my tracks are 85-115bpm anyway so I'm set! Different sounds though gonna be so fun to merge tracks together. Quote
OxyKon Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 I stated in the OP that you could just do the genre you're normally doing or to make it interesting use every track that comes up, my mix is turning out with everything Quote
eggssell Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 hehe yeh id be farked. ive got everything from dean martin (swing) to trash talk (metal) to old school (rock steady crew) to new school (ab-soul) to true school (atcq) to all the dance things!and i cant even mix from an 80 bpm hip hop track to a 85 bpm hip hop track however.... that is a freaking awesome idea! its like friday shuffle on overload!sidenote - i hate itunes shuffle. people may recall from my intro fred, on my old ipad classic i had about 4,000 songs. and without fail everyday it would play blink 182 - josie! it really pissed me off. i found it would play some songs heaps and some songs never, i.e. it wasnt random. some dude even did a hypothesis on it and researched it and yep turns out the algorithim isnt actually random. nice one apple dik eds.anyways thats when i started using smart playlists and inserted dont paly anything that has been played in the last 90 days.then apple "broke" the live update feature on the smart playlists and had no intention of fixing it so as to encourage their cloud service. nice one apple dik whales.so i use the app "smart playlist" now/rant Quote
OxyKon Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Haha yea that's kinda where I got the idea from was Friday shuffle, I tried bringing that back but not many people were ever into it, this would be more fun cause it involves more of what we all love Quote
OxyKon Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Mitch had a question in chat of how to include vinyl in the shuffle. My answer would be close your eyes and randomly select pieces of wax, if you categorise it like i do than you have to be even more selective and try to evenly choose between the categories you have. OxyKon Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Ok so my 1st playlist is complete, and boy is it a doozy. I've gone for a 2hr playlist just because my shuffle is so vast across so many genres, i'll prep it ready for tonights FNCP Quote

OxyKon Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 I have over 700 records, that would take me a year Quote
BeatLeSS Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I'm spreadsheeting all the new tunes I buy so that I can keep track of them. I swear there's some I haven't gotten yet from Beatport. Quote
