Been thinking....

Would a weekly of bi-weekly mix thats 10 - 15 minutes be better then a monthly 30 minutes - 1 hour+ mix or Vice Versa for getting your name out there and/or getting more attention?

Long mixes

give you the chance to take someone on a journey, play multiple more different genres and can showcase your talent. although, they take longer if you plan out your mix, pain in the ass when you stuff up and with our crappy internet speeds.. can take ages to upload.

Short mixes

are easy to pump out, can get creative with time frame, small to upload and provide you with more content.

Depends on the genre imo.

House/Techno/Trance/Prog = Longer mixes to take listener on a journey

Electro/Bangers/Trap/Dubshit = Shorter due to quicker transitions and stuff.

I don't usually listen to long mixes much anymore. I definitely don't record them unless I have to. I reckon 20mins / half an hour is pretty good. That's my personal preference

I love listening to a good 2+ hr set. However that's mainly house / techno and it fits the genre

If you wanna do commercial sorta stuff I guess short with lots of tracks is good, as most of your listener base have the attention span of a goldfish.

Agreed, it's the same with myself an Drum & Bass, love long mixes, but yeah most listeners out there don't have the best attention span so they'll like shorter mixes

i hate doing long mixes myself and just feels like a chor to do one every month or two to then upload, usually get started and nut out a decent mix but don't actually record it.

short 10 - 15 minute mixes is where i was thinking of going. a hand full of song each week or two. making it easier and less of a chor, being fun and enjoying it.

i agree about most EDM being short and house / techno being longer.

...most listeners out there don't have the best attention span so they'll like shorter mixes

what i was thinking, hence going with shorter mixes

Half an hour to an hour is my preference. I hate schizophrenic mixes where soon after the song starts it's bring mixed out.

doing a schizo kind of mix can sometimes be a nice challenge... if you're not just dropping everything and anything lol.

i like long mixes cuz for me you pop a mix on then do whatever you doing and enjoybthe journey the dj is taking you on. used to love the fabric live mixes

i think it depends on purpose. you juat want to give people something to listen to. or you pimping you wares

making. yeh its a bitch on a longun to fark up at like 20 odd minutes.

but yeh i never really spend too much planning mixes. so yeah usually i start with about 15-20 tracks. keep mixing in various orders and some songs get dropped cuz they dont fit.

then i just go fuck it hit record and see what happens

anything under an hour i dont feel is worth listening to or downloading unless its a promo mix or for a comp. For my own show i do hour mixes because i have one that comes out each month. I feel you can only take someone on a journey when your playing live i dont feel the connection when im not there in the flesh
