lok204 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hey guys I have a question for you all that may touch on some issues of morality that a DJ or any music fan faces.I'm sure there are users on here that use it and many many more in the industry. What I'm referring to is the whole 'Like my page to unlock a free download'I have many concerns with having a Facebook account but have been stuck with it because I want access to these artists tracks. It's so widely used now that I think it would be a genuine detriment to my ability to find and play underground dance music without a Facebook.Any users on here found a way around this conundrum? The only solution I thought of was to delete my personal account and make on on behalf of my blog or my DJ persona. But that still means I technically have a Facebook :s Quote
Mitch Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Facebook have started cracking down on the 'like for download' pages that many artists used to implement. I've seen it almost disappear in the last few months. I think you'll find the requirement become less relevant shortly. They quite often post the links on other social networks too (mostly twitter), however I'm not sure what your stance on that platform is. Quote
eggssell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 i dont have fecesbook.and anyone that has like for DL, i just move onto the next track.im sure i might be missing on some good tracks, but meh, plenty of other ways to find good music Quote
lok204 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 hmmm I might try your stance eggssell for a week or two and see how I go. Quote
LabRat Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 i use Facebook (i don't like it) and i have implemented the "like to download" feature. i don't like it and i think it sucks. i only grabbed it to try get a few extra followers through my tracks (there's only 2) but people like, download, then unlike my page and it's so shit. there's a lot of people jumping on this clickdj thing and toneden where you need to like them on soundcloud, Facebook and twitter to get the track, as well as other pages. i think it's bullshit but there's an argument out there where people say liking their pages is the least we can do for them giving out their tracks for fee - which is fair enough i guess...Facebook started to crack down on the "like to download" but only the version where a number of people needed to like the page before the download was unlocked (example: 10 page likes unlocks a free download). i don't agree with that at all, but it's an online world we seem to live in now, where all people seem to care about it how many likes, or hearts, or followers they have. it sucks hole but i don't think there's a great deal we can do about it. ThatPartyGuy Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 link & follow soundcloud download links popping up.annoying as bawls Quote
BeatLeSS Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 If you like the artist enough to want to download and play a free track, liking their page would mean you can stay up to date on their music, no?I have no problem liking a page for a track I'm receiving for free, as it means I can then be connected to more goodies coming from them.I'm not a fan of Facebook, but that's for other reasons than Music. An alternative would be to message the artist through Soundcloud or wherever you heard the track and ask for a download as you do not use Facebook. I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige!Edit: can this be moved to DJ Headquarters? Doesn't seem to be an off-topic convo. Quote
Cupe Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Edit: can this be moved to DJ Headquarters? Doesn't seem to be an off-topic convo.Done. Quote
lok204 Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Damn it I should have followed my instinct and put it there in the first place! Well I'm going to try this without Facebook and see how much of a problem it is. I don't hate the whole like for a download thing. It's Simply because I keeps me locked to Facebook that I'm not a fan of. Kind of like when a major artist only has their track on iTunes. Quote
BeatLeSS Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I'll wager that if you message them on the source platform (if you heard it on Soundcloud, then message them on Soundcloud, etc.) explaining you don't use facebook and would love to be able to spin that tune, they'd be more than happy to send the track to youYou've just reminded me I need to message a few artists about obtaining wav's. LabRat Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I have no problem liking a page for a track I'm receiving for free, as it means I can then be connected to more goodies coming from them.i think it's more the force feeling to follow them. i support the artists i want to support but when i have to go through all these different sites and follow 5 people before downloading a track from 1 person it becomes a bit stupid. recently, i was redirected to toneden and before downloading the track there were 4 different pages i needed to follow on soundcloud before the link became active. i don't know those other 3 pages and after investigation they were just blogs. some people are cool with that but my soundcloud is flooded with spam as it is. people have been reposting the same track for about 6 weeks and i see it 6 or 7 times on my feed Quote

I don't follow certain artists music that I've met because they're fucking douche bags in real life. Vice versa, I don't follow certain artists music that I get along with really well IRL because I'm just not a fan of their tunes. If you don't agree with how you obtain the music, wouldn't that be enough grounds to not want to play their music?I'll wager that if you message them on the source platform (if you heard it on Soundcloud, then message them on Soundcloud, etc.) explaining you don't use facebook and would love to be able to spin that tune, they'd be more than happy to send the track to youI'd even go as far as saying if you messaged them saying "Hey I really love your tracks, but have no interest whatsoever in jumping through all these hoops on sites I don't use to be able to play them, rekon you can hook me up with a copy?" you'd get a download link. Hell, you'll probably find the artist didn't want it that way and spark up a really good convo about the industry with them.Of course, if they came back with no, then I'd put them on the "do not support" list. We're in a digital world, but nothing beats the personal approach. LabRat Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Nah following the artist I'm usually fine with. There's a lot of tracks I haven't downloaded or artists I've followed for that reason. I appreciate free music and getting support because I give out free music also. I may have veered off topic here a little. Comparing Facebook with soundcloud/toneden/clickdj I'd rather follow the artist on Facebook than going through all the blogs, following them and unfollowing them Quote
eggssell Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 ive received tracks through PMing on Soundcloud either cuz i say nice track can i get a DL. or if it says get on FB i tell them i dont have and they send me links. Quote
