oznewbie Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 ok guys, i know im going a bit ott with the threads/posts etc. but i honestly have so many questions ... Question 1.do you guys play different genres much ? I love house/trance bangers, its my main 'go to'.But just been on addictech (thanks beatless) ... and im really feeling the 'BOSPHORUS UNDERGROUND' label. Described as Techno ... tagged as 'Dope • Funky • Heavy • House • Progressive • Techno • Vocal'.Not my thing, or so I thought.Ive got few albums from them in my wanted. (30-40 choons). Do you guys mix genres much? different nights? clubs? partys? for fun ?Im thinking of pulling the trigger on them and giving it a go. Im only going to be bedroom'ing for a long time, but to be able to play different genres surely can only strengthen my skills?Question. 2. advantages of mp3 Vs Wav vs flac.addictech offers 192 kbps, 320kbps, flac and wav ... all $1 more expensive than the previous. whats the difference? is it worth paying the extra money for WAV ?320 kbps MP3 Vs WAV ... $9.99 Vs 11.99 per album. Mitch Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I get lossless where I can.. However if you're only DJing bedroom 320kbps mp3 is fine. A lot of people won't even tell the difference until you get onto a larger club rig. I wouldn't waste my time with 192kbps. As for different genres - yes, the more you can play, the stronger you're skills will be.My collection mainly consists of deep/tech/house/techno, but I can mix pretty much anything. It's all about practice and playing what you enjoy Quote
oznewbie Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 forgive me, whats lossless?i think il give them a go. i need stuff to play at 2pm sunday afternoon by the pool ... and headhunterz is just a bit too hard lol.( just kidding, I did use to be big into it. Ive even been to Qlimax@ The GelreDome, Arnhem, about 6 years ago ... since then, ive just lost touch with hardstyle, but recently tried to get back into it. F**k me, thats hard. Dont know how i did it ) Quote
Mitch Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 lossless = formats that have no compression. FLAC, WAV, AIFF, etc.lossy = formats that have compression. MP3, WMV, , etc. Quote
eggssell Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 keep in mind that not all bitrates are the same and comparable. i cant remember off the top of my head but just google it. what itunes sells seems lower because of the number but it is compressed differently so sounds better than ripping a cd at that same rate. if buying from beatport and juno i just buy mp3si remember being told before even when playing in the club a lot of PA systems are made for loudness so as long as you arent playing some badly converted 128 mps ripped using 1990s tech, then anything better than that sounds just fine. but on the other hand i assume for perso listening you are not using crappy apple headphones, or even for your car, then it is nice to have higher quality music Quote
AlexJ Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 the kbps really comes to affecting volume. put simply 320 is louder than 128/192 whatever the qualities are often very similar but the 320 is louder and brighter. the same can be said for good quality wav's (lossless) which are better than 320. that being said compressing the hell out of a track is often done to hide shitty mastering so be careful will lossless that have been mastered using a tin can and string. i have heard situations where 320 is better than wav because it not everything is audible. Mitch Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 ^ I wouldn't say I agree with the above. However, without confusing OP & starting a completely different debate going into the specifics of file formats etc. here is a summary:WAV/FLAC: highest quality, large disk space, expensiveMP3 320kbps: Very good quality, small disk usage, cheaper, what most people useMP3 192: Rarely see it get sold online, worse quality & less disk usage compared to MP3 320kbps. Wouldn't waste my time with it (personally) Quote
oznewbie Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Il stick to the mp3 320kbps. It sounds like it will be best suited to my useage. But im glad i asked, as now i have a small insight into the differences.excellent. a new genre at 320 it is and its $9.99 for a group of 20. nice. http://www.addictech.com/p/175653 Quote
BeatLeSS Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 When you start playing on huge rigs quality is a must. I won't download anything but lossless anymore (WAV/FLAC preferred). Gets expensive from beatport as each track has a 0.75c surchage the bastards!Glad you found addictech of service man Quote
