AUSTRALIAN DJ FORUMS

Not sure if this right section or if the topic should be moved to another area but i'm requiring someone to just mix 80 odd songs for an event in Tassie.

Already have the songs and the set list (obviously open to songs being moved around if required) but generally want to keep in the order I have it in.

If you're interested in doing some work at home, send me a PM.

Cheers

Well they want a mix done with tracks they have, in a specified order.

It's not really standard, but I'm not sure if anyone is just going to do it for free, because it will take time.

Especially with 80 songs.

Why not just get some track arrangement software and do it yourself?

(Unless of course you were hoping someone would do it for free, in which case good luck lolz).

The costs should reflect how much it would cost to hire a DJ that would mix 80 songs (which is about 1-3 hours depending).

No I don't expect anyone to do this for free.

It's for my wedding & as you're all probably aware weddings cost an F-load, so just looking to save a bit of money and have someone premix the songs rather than attending the event. I'm sure this would suit some people - being able to do it in you're own time without really too many time constraints (just need it by mid January).

The track list is below without the artists (still working on it) - Obviously the first few songs are locked down for the 'first dance' (yeh it's a morbid song to do a first dance to but she won't budge on it). Other than that it's all fairly generic so people do dance (80s, pop, house, electro and some god awful ghetto at the end).

Re: Price - I have no idea, i'm asking for quotes.

Ah, cheers for the extra info.

As far as a price goes, like I said a normal DJ would take around 2 hours to mix that many tracks, and if it's for a wedding I'm assuming you don't want the tracks too beatmixed into each other for the sake of people enjoying that song at that time.

I know DJs that can beatmix well enough that they all become a mash; especially if they're mixing from 3 or more decks at the same time, but I'm guessing you really just want the songs to all play in a row, sounding fairly seamless without gaps of silence in between.

80 tracks is about 2-3 hours, and on top of that the DJ needs to own every track in your list, tracks are usually 2-3 dollars each.

That's about $200 worth of music + the time it takes to book someone to create the mix at around 2-3 hours (an average DJ plays for about 100-150/hour). If you want the tracks to have a small amount of mixing into each other it could push out to around 4 hours.

You might get someone responding shooting a proposal/deal at you for a certain amount. I'd do it for fuck all but I don't have all the songs.

Yeah spot on but I don't mind if there's some creativity in there; I'll leave that up to the dj but the premise is tracks following seamlessly.

Price wise - I suppose it just depends on how many songs they've already got and how much their hourly rate is for this project.

Showing my noob status here but what format are the song in?

Thanks for your assistance already dude!

Yea because it's a wedding I assume they want to be able to at least hear the songs on their own for a major portion of them.

I know some DJs that would take that list and mix together like a baus (I'm looking at you Mitch) and some songs would only see maybe 30 seconds of that song on its own before it was being mashed into the next one. But given it's a wedding whoever takes this up needs to clearly understand what is required.

The original songs could be in any number of formats: wav, mp3, aiff etc

But I assume whoever does it will just export and save an mp3 file, given that's the easiest to use.

You'll need to get the artist names done up asap, 'cause some of those songs have multiple artists (depending on year of release), remakes, remixes etc so you'll need to confirm that before anyone will know what is required of them and how big the job will be.

this is probably my area of expertise for the time being

i could sort out most of that stuff fairly easily. but it will take a fair bit of correspondance to get everything just right for the wedding. as you can no doubt understand given the experience and music knowlegde of your dj you are more likely to have them move a few tracks around, add in remixes to keep the general groove and feel of the mix consistent. your still looking at 350-400 but considering a good wedding dj+rig+consultations (like i would normally do) will cost in excess of 1k its not too bad

the thing with weddings in my experience is as cupe mentioned, about giving each track its fair share of airtime. a good flawless wedding mix (that im sure you will listen to time and time again for nostaligias sake) takes more time than a traditional mix because you cant just up and play everything as you would live because it will sound different+ small blemishes in arrangement, timing, eq which are really non-existant over a larger sound system become more apparent in a polished mix which has been through a mastering phase (as i would do).

if i was to undertake such a project it would require your contact details, at least 3 scheduled consultation sessions via phone through the duration of the project a locked down list of songs and a 50% deposit.

thanks
