pill Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 i think generally kids groups over 10 aren't that bad. play stuff out of the charts, maybe a spin the bowling pin game, and they'll be satiated.under 10s are annoying because you have to babysit them as well as play music. Quote
dim Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I got told a while back by my Dj mentor:"good music makes a good party, but good music + good mixing makes a better party" I take this into consideration with every gig i do mate if everyone had that attitude about their work the world would be a much better place. It's putting the icing on top that makes a cake ey?even tho that came from your mentor you shared it here so I gotta + rep for that. SolDios Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Its annoying when things aren't to there description, brought a pair of 15" 400w audioline pa speakers for $200, ($700 brand new) rocked up and they where only 12". Still $200 wasn't bad at all, and they sound amazing. but Its just frustrating when things aren't as they seemed Quote

Even if it was just a typo in the description.you be sure you're happy. For starters check how much the 12" would have been new? is it still a bargain? the lad who sold them may well be laughing his head off rite now and dodgy dealing salesmen really do piss me off, the more you let them get away with it the more they'll do it to others. SolDios Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 haha 2nd hand, and there worth $700 brand new O_O Quote
dim Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 yep,i thought you meant the 15"s were $700 new and you expected to pay $200 for them, but then when you got there they were actually 12"s. i didnt realise the 12"s would have been $700 new.bargain's a bargain mate. Quote
andythemusician Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 How annoying is it...When people underestimate the amount of work you do by setting their "budget" way below their expectations.Seriously. 5 hour gig is like 10 hours of work for me, you need to take into consideration the trailer load to equipment I bring with me.Bleh. Quote
Gandy Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 oh dont think im worth my quote and will only pay what you think is appropriate?? no worries *rocks up with MOS all in one portable stereo with ipod dock* ok where do you want me to play Quote
andythemusician Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Yeah I reckon... for weddings none the less... you'd think you'd want it to go shibby and sweet...But lets not pay the guy running the music and MCing the night well - its not like he has to meet with us a few times, liaise with the venue, organise the whole evening, bring his entire kit and then maybe play a few tunes?Nah, the iPod will do that for me Quote
dim Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 we've noticed a trend with weddings in the uk.the caterers, flower arrangers etc have been really cashing in and taking couples for a ride, and coz they all want to keep up with the joneses they go along with it 9 times out of 10.most seem to think of the reception party and music last and budget the least for it. I'm not sure why but i seriously suspect they think it's an easy job because they've been to so many functions where lazy or amatuerish djs do a rubbish job.so we set up a dedicated agency for couples who want the party to be the high point not the damp squib at the end of the night. We contract with them so they have at least 2 liason sessions with us personally and we allow them to stipulate and discuss ideas for mini mixes, gags etc etc.bespoke service basically, which is what we wanted to supply in the first place. But now we have a website that really tells people what we do we only get customers who recognise it and are willing to pay accordingly. well most of the time. Quote
Gandy Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 burr i know, i got asked to do a christmas function and gave them my quote then they said thats a little out of our budget came back with an offer of 1/4 of my quote...i politely sat the organiser down and explained how i quoted my original price and they were like oh yea considering all that its a very reasonable price...so will you do it for 1/4 of the price loli then said, if your boss called you in the morning and said "oh btw, can you come in today for only 1/4 of what your worth, funding is a little tight this month" and literally said ill do it for that price but all im bringing is an all in one stereo with an ipod dock and thats pushing itpeople just dont get it, so glad i only do stuff like that once in a blue moon i really feel for the guys in the mobile industry Quote

Lurk6r Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 -When people eat instead of drink and talk instead of dance. Then complain at the end when the place calls music off in 10 min.-21'st at a nice respectable venue, with most of the extended family invited as well as all her friends who want nothing but house music. as far as im concerned a 21'st belongs in a poorly lit garage in the middle of nowhere where the only point is to drink, fuck and if theres time dance.-Hot girls who ask for bad songs on behalf of their mother. eg lady gaga-Hot girls who ask for bad songs on behalf of their closeted boyfriend, eg that new britney song...-bogan weddings, enough said, Quote

andyman Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 When someone dancing requests floor stomping techno, so you play said floor stomping techno, then all the plebs sitting down in the back corner get off their fat asses and complain about the awesomness of the floor stomping techno. Quote
legunner Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 never gonna please everyone.last weeek i was playing a mashup set and the bar ladys complained to the ownner that the music was inconsistant, they meant that the genre was inconsistant.the manager replied to them the dancefloor was packed and we sold a ton of drinks so i dont care. awesome88 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 bahaha so true about parties.... everyone is dancing and having fun, then one person decides to put on some death metal or some shit. Way to kill the buzz Quote
legunner Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 never EVER host a party where an ipod is the source of the mmusic, it ends up being 11pm and you only ever get to hear 20 seconds of each song. Quote
pill Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 oh my god. i once had someone come and rage and swear at me for it being too loud, and it was no where near 'loud' by my standards. No one else had a problem with it. I turned the music off and said that he can either leave or the party is over.Turns out he was a 'drunkle' and he was swiftly taken off my hands. Quote
Jaz Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 what a pig, WHALE should appreciate what he can get, spesh with your new lighting Quote
