Trennaa Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Hi y'all. So ive had a couple of sets at a particular place, I get good reviews about my sets, I have the ability to read the crowd and change the music style to keep people entertained throughout my hour. I have a particular place in mind where I want to DJ, its not a massive place, but its not quiet. I know a couple of people who are residents, and someone who from what I understand is a talent scout/runs the night. What is the best way to approach them in order to get a set at this venue? I feel like walking up and saying "hey, any chance I can play a set" would be inappropriate. The people I know, also know me, so they would have had the exposure to my stuff that I post publically so they most likely would be able to view my music taste/ability.Tips? Ideas? Quote
Mitch Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Do you attend the night regularly?Normally how it works in this kind of situation - show the manager/whoever does the bookings that you frequent there and can bring friends. Then look at asking how to get a set there once you have a good relationship with the booking manager Quote
Trennaa Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 I dont attend regularly, mainly because the venue is a distance from home lol. However, I could attend somewhat more regularly. I know the place as of late has been really busy, and I guess I PERSONALLY want to be able to bring my style to the venue, try it out on a larger crowd, see the reaction. I understand this sounds very selfish, but again, I guess the only way to get critisism is from a raw crowd, right? Quote
LabRat Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 it's good to network, so go meet these guys personally and have a chat with them. grab your mates and make yourself a regular down there and get in the photos (literally. a promoter recently told me to do that lol). if you support the club / event they're going to give you a shot. don't expect it to happen straight away but the more you make yourself visible the better your shot is gonna be. also as just a personal thing, don't bug them. these guys get kids emailing them, sending them mixes and asking them everyday to have a set so defs get in with the crowd and and do it that way. it's a bit of a process but good luck man Quote
ThatPartyGuy Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 i'm proof that these methods work haha.i was a promoter and said to the head DJ "i'm going to play here one day". nek minnit... got to be a regular DJ there.all about networking, making friends and having a good time. if you drink, don't drink enough to get kicked out haha.
