Gandy Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 So, picked up my first turntable yesterday the rebuild had officially started. One thing I noticed about turnies is that they are quite a bit heavier than cdjsI need a table to start setting my kit up on, just going to be two turnies and a mixer not worrying about going dvs (at this stage)Anyone have suggestions on desks? I'll be setting this up diagonally in a corner facing the outside and balcony so I am playing to people (can't stand looking at a wall when mixing)Can't wait to get this all setup and take a pic for you all too see, the pimp pad is getting there Quote
Mitch Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Most important thing is the height. You're pretty tall, so you want something that puts the decks at a comfortable height for you to mix on. Desk will need to support about 50kg, so anything relatively sturdy should be fine. Quote
Mitch Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Also the thing that annoys me about my desk is there is a back on it so you can't clamp anything to it. Hard to explain,, will get pics after work Quote
Gandy Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 Good point about height didn't even think of that Quote
Cupe Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Look at tabletops and legs on ikea (not desks)There's plenty of great ones and they are simply that. Also the legs are always adjustable, so perfect for whatever height you need. Quote
OxyKon Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 ^ thisIkea is the best, I got a table top and legs from ikea for under $100, will work great Quote
Gandy Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 I'm hoping they have a website you can order online from no ikea here Quote
eggssell Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 ikea have online but not delivery (from memory may have changed).i got my desk from office works.but yeh things to consider some repeated abovewhich way are you going to play - standard or battle. as this affects size of deskweight. consider the turnies which are 20kg each, mixer, road case (see below), and even speakers if you dont have standsheight, especially if you end up with road cases (see below)storage. the easy way is chuck a shirt or pillow case over them. you can also buy cloth dust covers (i have UDG ones). or you may choose to put in a road case (which i ended up doing). the road cases add weight and height to the setup.IF you go road cases dont buy a double one. seems like a good idea until you have to pick that shit up. even crunddy with his hulk ass bitched about the double case. eggssell Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 they changed the expedits....maybe thats why i got my two for soo cheap.a lot of people mod the expedit putting a table above (refer diy fred im sure someone did it in there or linked something about it).but yeh expedits are a must. i have the 8 and 16 one Quote
eggssell Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 also you dont need battle to scratch!!!!if you are mixing with the occassional wicky wicky then you can do in standardof course if you are scratching a lot during mix sessions then it may be worthwhile.what is the advantage again of battle. traction when scratching? because it definitely looks more akward to fark around with the pitchEDIT: oh yeah so the tonearm is not in the way Quote
russell Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 they changed the expedits....yeah to the units I linked which are pretty much exactly the same... Quote
