AUSTRALIAN DJ FORUMS

Figured since we're all a bunch of musicians/DJs/producers/music lovers/whatever pretentious name you wanna call yourself, each of us have different music tastes and we all know a lot of artists big and small that we love listening to. So if one of us is looking for a type of song to add our DJ set or we just wanna jam to something for the hell it, some lubly person at the forums can help them find what they're looking for by giving a song to check out or even a list of artists and tunes that they enjoy.

I'll get the ball rolling.

I've been looking for some smooth soul tunes, cool rock music or some crazy pop tunes from the 60s and 70s. They're great for walking around college (or anywhere, in fact) to get the good vibes going. I bought the "Guardians of The Galaxy OST" deluxe edition which includes "Awesome Mix Volume 1" and I've been listening to it non stop so I'm looking for tunes of that sort.

This is epic thread idea ch0w!

I'm looking any midtempo funk laden bass music for a 6pm set in the bush coming up in November. Basically want to get people in a slow groove before it gets hectic in the night. Sun should be going down or not far off it so it really needs to set a vibe. After anything around 85-110 bpm that people have been digging lately.

Where are you based (I am in Melbourne) this is my thing I use to play a lot of funk and reggae back in the day.

PM me

But Looking for Good Seventies laid back tunes you can't go by

David Bowie (Soul, Funk Era) think Young Americans

Steve Wonder Innervisions

Al Green anything pre eighties

Barry Whites band the Love unlimited orchestra ( check out midnight groove)

Any instrumental album's by James Brown i.e all the J.B's records

Parliament/ Funkadelic

Blue Note have put out a bunch of good soul funk comps of stuff which has been sampled. These are always good because even if the crowd has not heard the tune they will know the sample.

Mix tape wise dj shadow brainfreeze is a killer funk soul mash up.

That's off the top of my head and it's only really the big names, I will have to go digging through my records for more tonight.

I've been working on a bit of retro sets recently and maybe the following night interest you:

Claudia Barry - sweet dynamite (Todd Terje edit)

Leo Perez - colours

Dynamicron - 2 hot

#mali - boogie monster

Thelma Houston - if u feel it

Not necessarily of the same era, but have a similar feel. If u go through youtube and like them, the related section will guide u along.

Also, one thing I have been looking for is 1 song in particular. Very housey with A violin through tour the track. No lyrics. And I think it is used at the end of the hamish and Andy radio show.

If anyone knows this or any other violin house style that would be great
