Cupe Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I have this idea of producing some crazy experimental sound with a quartet. What's I'm wondering is, what the best equipment would be for this.Midi keyboards, launch pads etc.Stuff to let me hold weird synths and sounds while they're playing. I guess a lot of people use Ableton for this? I've never used any software/DAWs for live playing so no idea.Input pls! Quote
Narukami Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 This could be of inspiration.I know a live act and producing is different but still, sounds like it could help with what you're looking for. As for the gear he used, I have a DVD of him live and I'm pretty sure he uses the same gear in the link and on the DVD.In the picture, I see 2 Novation Launchpads, an AKAI APC40 and I don't know what the unit on the far right is called but I know it's drum sampler you hit with drum sticks. In the Youtube video there's a Midi Keyboard (again, don't know the brand soz). The DAW that he uses Ableton Live.Anyways, hope that helps. What you're doing sound flippin awesome man, can't wait to hear it Quote
Cupe Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Yea I thought launch pads would form a big part of it.Cheers for that Quote
eggssell Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Get some old synths and a sampler/sequenceror a synth all in one like the microkorg. Hop to 3.00 till end for some spacy chill sounds Quote
Cupe Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 I've already got a midi keyboard with pitch bends and shit (maudio axiom49) was just wondering for cues and shit, something like a launchpad looks like what I'd need.I'd need something to record loops and samples and have them play back or continue playing (like the sort of shit beardyman does). BeatLeSS Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 KiNK does this a lot with his setup. Records live to a clip via launchpad, records a couple and then chooses & launches via launchpad. Quote
AlexJ Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 yeah anything that allows a quantize crossover-->link with daw to establish sequence pattern. part of the problem with sample launching is keeping it all intime if no real sequencer is used. many people dont use sequences specifically because they lack a certain versatility with live performance. i know the launchpads can be configured for this.
