yizzle Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 So i have run out of USB ports on my comp when it comes to all the music things. I only have 4 usb ports and (when necessary) have 6 things i need to plug in atm. (a few additions are coming soon)In the past i have picked up a few cheap USB Hubs for around the $20 mark, but they have always let me down in a few different ways... If not straight away but in the short term as well. Now im thinking something around the $50-80 mark.. dont want to go real high end, but something reliable is what i want. i am currently looking at the ORICO A3H7eBay link hereis $60-ish too much for reliability or too little? any thoughts, questions & suggestions is appreciated in advance Quote
Scottie Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/D-Link-DUB-H ... 0b0&_uhb=1 Quote
yizzle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 ok, scottie has a cheaper version of what i was looking at, but..there there much difference between the two? Quote
Scottie Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 never heard of orico in my life m8, i would imagine the dlink is better made and less likely to shit itself than what looks like a chinese knockoff of something Quote
yizzle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 what about duz's link? worth thew few extra dollars over the dlink? Quote
Duz Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 the anker is the top of the list of lifehackers 'best usb hub' reviewhttp://lifehacker.com/five-best-usb-hubs-1414094277difference is the anker has 9 ports and is USB 3.0the D-Link has 7 ports and is USB 2.0 Quote
yizzle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 ok, so is the Anker that duz posted going to cause me AC connection problems since its posted from Lakeside, California, United States? Quote
yizzle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 even though scottie's D-Link DUB-H7 only supports USB 2.0, im feeling like it might be an overall better choice $$ wise and power compatibility..? Quote
Mitch Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Should be able to get an anker from diff eBay listing to what Duz posted with aus power Quote
eggssell Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 just remember not all usb ports operate the same. things may have moved on from usb 3, but w usb 2 there were some particulars, where especially if you had usb 1 items on the board (like a lot of controllers) it in turn toned down all the ports speed. so the best ones needed to be where every port operated on their own. that is a very laymans explanation. djtt had a good article on it. im sure it was linked here but ill try to dig it out for you. i ended up getting the belkin one they recommendedEdit: the term was multi tt usb hubs. This ensures all ports operate at full speeds regardless of devices plugged in. here is the article. but things may have changedhttp://www.djtechtools.com/2010/01/25/u ... j-hi-spee/ Quote
yizzle Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 thanks eggs, that was a good read!+rep Quote
BeatLeSS Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 YSM! Sync thoughts mate. I was umming and ahh'ing about hubs just the other dayLooked at those Ankers, they seem to be the bomb - I kinda wanna order one. I love the look, and the layout seems great to just sit on the desk. I've seen them in a few live performance videos too they just sit neatly in the setup of gear.USB3.0 is the way to go, there's no point staying on a USB2.0 platform when new devices are moving over to it. They are backwards compatible. Orico seems to be the same as Anker from what I can tell, just Anker is rebadged/new casing. But I'd probably stick with the Anker. Let me know where you find them from, cos I'll probs pick one up too.Edit: How cool does this one look Oirco 7port Quote
yizzle Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 The anker does seem good. I was unable to find a place to buy them in Australia as of yet.I'll have another comb around tonight, see what pops up. Quote
LabRat Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 i picked mine up from Dick Smith years ago and it seems to do the job. i think there's 6 ports in it and it's one you plug into the wall. i was told that it's better to get one that is not self powered by usb, especially if you're planning to add performance tools like dj controllers and all that Quote
yizzle Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 oh ye so yesterday i picked this upmust say for $35 is a very nice hub for now. Does the job. The on/off switches are a god send since i have 3 usb keyboards, usb mic and my F1 to now play with in FL. Saves a ton or plugging shit in and out all the time.Think it was Mitch in chat that said he has one.+rep Quote
Mitch Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I got it from officeworks, but think they're cheaper from pccg online Quote
yizzle Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 picked mine up from officeworks too.think they were selling it for $40 something but i found it for $35 online somewhere.so they had to price match it Quote
