Hi guys,

I have the above mixer, and I've noticed using the Master 1, Ive noticed I can only really have the levels about 1/3 or so of the overall levels, anything more, and it starts pushing the levels into reds (clipping).

Is this usual?

Turn the gain down on your individual channels so they aren't clipping (at home, around the 0db mark on the channel), then you can bring the master vol up a bit more

Without trying to sound like a total twat, isn't it usual to have the gain sort of sitting roughly in the middle? (5)

It really depends on how loud the track you're playing is mastered. So you use it to fine tune each track so it's not clipping + the same level as the track you're mixing into
