I have bought many a tracks that wasnt played after I played it

never made it into the even the top 20 on any chart..

thats the way it goes

I like to see what people ask for before I buy because your own personal feelings shouldnt come in to it, its what the client WANTS to hear, not what you want or need

go look at what you take with you to shows and what you play every time and you tell me should I have bought that track/CD or whatever just to have it sitting at home doing nothing ??

then have a nice 2010

not necacerrily.

Hijack from UK, one of jacking house/fidgets biggest producers dj's said in an interview, he has always played the music he has liked and not what the top 20 was or what the mainstream was.....why play music you dont like to a crowd. its like doing a job you dont like. you have your own style, and if people like it, theyll come back.

and i feel pretty much the same way, if i was asked to do a gig and they told me to play top 20 or what ever, not a chance id play/

Not everyone does clubs, but what's the difference between various clubs and mobile DJing? Their only difference is different venues, different music, different atmosphere.

But with clubs, most DJ's get to choose their style of music, their venues and their atmosphere, while mobile DJ's are forced to play music they might not enjoy, possibly a shitty atmosphere and venue.

Of course your job requirements are to play music the client wants to hear, but with clubs, you can choose your venue with the music you love and the clients love.

Why earn money from a job that requires you to play music you don't like? Sure, it might make you feel better that the client is enjoying the music, but are you enjoying the music or just the money? That is the question.

Most of us chase our passion for our music, not primarily for the satisfaction of clients, especially with music that you don't enjoy.

Jaytee thats why, if you listen to new tracks and try and play them at a wedding 9/10 times they all walk off the floor and then you have to work the crowd to get them back

basicly these days I wait and see what it does for shows that I do (weddings, engagements etc) then if they are being played i'll use them

there is a lot of great music out there and there is a lot of crap as well

when I first started I use to buy anything that sounded like it would work

To buy whats on the charts (top20) and did that for many years till it got so bad that 80% of what I bought spent 99.9% of the time at home, no one wanted to hear it

one club use to love when I came in as I bought loads of new stuff that wasnt even on the charts and since then over here we have had clubs close, get burnt down (with the loss of much music left inside to burn) :(

but years ago when they started adding styles it went from good to in-sain on what was really what!

so thats how I look at it and have for many years

so at present there are way too many tracks to even list here......

but hey each to his own

yer im too stupid to realise that i get all my drinks for free meet so many girls that normaly wouldnt wanna talk to me and have people tell you they love your style yeah im sure id rather do weddings eat cake and do the ymca

Exactly! Why would someone want to take something that they are passionate about and go and ruin it by doing something you dont want to do, now that is STUPID

i think that maybey we arnt doing atm as our primarly source of income but more of a hobby, and if it is your primary the only way youll get so many gigs is by taking the boring work, but im with johnnyb if im not gunna play gigs that im not going to put my full creativity to work why should i get payed to mix wedding songs when a 4 year old or a jukebox can do the same thing the atmosphere in a club can change in a second thats where the action is

Fav song thats starting to get real air time is Shock Collar - Ian Carey. As for you guys pulling out all these unknown tunes (unknown in the chart sense), where do you find all your music?

AS for the side convo with Dennis that's occured here the only thing I would like to add is although many of you do it as a hobby by not asking for correct rates in night clubs you are undercutting the industry as a whole. I make most of my money DJ in clubs and depending on the set I charge anywhere from $50 - $120 an hour. If you are just getting drinks and meeting girls then you NEED to start charging otherwise you are just undervaluing the industry.

Dennis, not everything is about mobile gigs mate. Mobile gigs may be where a lot of the money is but people do DJ for other reasons. You sound like you are in it just for money. Someone once said that ppl dj for 3 reasons:

1. For fame.

2. For Money.

3. For the Love.

I do it for the money and for the love of the music. The fame I am not worried about but if you are jsut doing it for the money then, I am going to say, You are what is wrong with the industry.
