Panasonic - once Matsushita (and National?) - originated and owned Technics.

Patents have since run out so it could well be a 1:1 clone, but Pioneer have never had any relationship with Technics.

a turn table with built in time code wouldn't be that bad a thing?

i.e. insert USB, then it has a display to go thru folders and pick a track. then everything else is per time code.

so means no need for computer and no need for crates of records but all the playability of using vinyl

Doesn't look like it from the photo, although I am curious to know what those 3 sets of lights are just above the tempo

its probably like the st-150s where you can set the pitch range (I don't know what else to call it). so normal, bigger (- and + 5%); even bigger (- and + 10%); huuuge (- and + 20%)

this is just a demo model with from what i have read still has at least 2 years till rolls out for production.

i can imagine there will be some changes and what not's to the design and all things.

this is purely a 'talk about me' photo to get people talking/feedback in the early days

If like to retract all my previous statements, because I've just remembered pioneer made a turntable in collaboration with echo years ago. That thing was terrible but that's thanks to the belt drive system it had

i imagine pioneer are not looking for some 'average' alternatives to the 1200's. I think they are seriously looking to replace the Technics 1200s as a new and more available option.

pioneer have teamed up with Qbert on this project, with that said i dont think it will fall short of a great product.

Also dont forget the Reloop RP-8000's doing its rounds at the moment with a bunch of 'new' midi options for people playing on TT's.

The pressure on Pioneer to construct a solid unit in such a saturated market of 'everyone' is a dj i think will push this product forward.

cause if you fail these days. you loose fast. Looking at what pioneer has been bringing out lately. i dont think they want to be in the backseat of the 'DJ revolution' but the opposite

imo.

Ive often wondered about the copyright issues with the tech knock-offs. How can they be so simillar to the orig?

I understand they are now out of production, but even before that the Stantons and others appeared.

I also wonder if Pioneer have been keeping an eye on vinyl sales?

Hopefully these new units might see more youngens taking up the wax!

building a TT platform has limited options for design.. but if the reloop rp 800 can avoid it with a few extra buttons and a USB connection im sure pioneers legal and design team will have no issues with working around such a problem.

Something to do with the original patents ending. They can't really do anything about it now, so all these new TT's being made in one factory in china are based on the old aesthetics but have much more modern internals

Most of the old TT's back in the day looked the same anyways. The old Stanton st's and such looked like the 1200's and so did the pioneer x echo ultd TT. I think it was just a style thing that may have changed after. Numark came along with their strange and wonderful looks. Vestax had theirs with the q-bert UFO special and Stanton went all round-like (aside from the st). So like Scottie said, it could be that technics patented the style with the 1210 and now it could be over meaning pioneer is clear to make it looks the way they like… total stab in the dark here lol

I think the hipsters who have driven this growth would more likely go for an audiophile type of deck.
