Daft Punk are Touring, but we only know where they aren’t

It’s been a while since Daft Punk hit the road for a world tour, the last was way back in 2006-2007 for the ‘Alive’ edition that saw the mighty pyramid visit most countries around the world including Australia that claims to be the fastest selling Daft Punk event in history (go team!).

Even though the robots have been publicly stating they don’t have any plans to tour the new album ‘Random Access Memories’ with Bangalter telling NME specifically it wouldn’t happen ‘any time soon.’ adding ‘We want to focus attention on the record itself, but also the nature of this record makes it not really possible to tour it.” it seems as if that’s not what the pair have been planning after a permit to perform at Wyoming’s Devil’s Tower in the states was knocked back.

For movie buffs out there the name should ring a bell, with the location actually being used in cult sci-fi film ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ filmed way back in 1977 when government scientists meet the aliens for the first time via a musical rendition, very fitting.

It was Wyomings Trib that spilled the beans on the planned performance with agents representing the Frenchies looking to create a stage area for 50,000 that would have involved lasers being shone directly at the rock, the only hiccup was the site is a national park and home to a number of sacred indian tribes. Bummer.

Park services confirmed they had reached out to members of all the tribes but had deemed it inappropriate due it being a night skies and natural park and knocked back the request Jan 31st.

The good news is park services seemed to note that the agents “appeared to be scouting locations across the world for a concert or multiple concerts to be held around the summer.”, woo! In terms of long lead for events it would be more probable that a Daft Punk tour would kick off through 2015, exciting stuff.

More recently Daft Punk played live at the Grammys alongside Stevie Wonder, which they then proved was the real thing and premiered new material as a feature on Pharrell Williams new album ‘G I R L’ with a perfect cameo on “Gust Of Wind”.
