One thing is certain as we evolve in the digital age — the public bitching sessions on social media are turning into an all out trend. #hashtagallthisdramashit

Generally, Twitter is used as a continuous status update to let everyone know how awesome you are, how awesome your life is, and how awesome your 8K follwer purchase is. Lately, it has become the most celebrated virtual boxing ring for the hottest heads and most brotastic attitudes in the industry. The fearless leader of the Twitter Battle Royale? deadmau5.

Surprised? Neither are we. This time, the brawl is taken up with Hardstyle heavyweight – Wildstylez. The allegation? Stealing melodies for Wildstylez newest release, Straight Forward from Joel’s track “Some Chords“. Some fans will say it sounds similar, others will say the two tracks are completley different. Either way, it’s out of control.

Our money is on the big dude. Can’t hide inside a Mau5head forever, bro.

Decide for yourself, both tracks below!

The way i see it there notes a-g in music, i find it hard to believe any new melodies exist anymore lol

What the mau5 is saying is that they copied the lot without being creative with the chords. There's other tweets going around about the use of chords and whatever.

I'm with deadmau5 on this. He has a case here

As much as i hate to admit i have to agree, yeah the mau5 can be a total dick at times, but he does have a case, i don't think anybody would be too happy if they heard some of their chords that they spent the time to make in somebody else's track that wasn't a remix.

Joel is a little bitch, and doing shit like this is the reason sample based music has such a bad reputation at the moment.

Given that all of his music sounds exactly the same, law of averages says that someone would produce some sort of work similar to the same 4 fucking notes he used eventually. If it was sampled, and no credit given, then sure, he might have a case. It's not sampled(who would waste time sampling that small and simple a piece of music?)

The way samplers like dr dre. used to get away with using certain samples is hire session musicians to play the part out in his own recordings. There is 0 legal standing to accuse theft of a 4 second loop that consists of less than 5 notes, that makes part of a completely different song, in a completely different genre. Nobody is going to listen to that hardstyle track and go 'is this deadmau5?'

bottom line:

joel is an egotistical WHALE that needs to pull his head out of his own ass

If you took something from my tracks and used them in your tunes, without the effort to manipulate the sample from originality, I'd take action, regardless how simple it is. They sued Men At Work for the plagiarism of that Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree or whatever it is.

If music sounds the same, do something about it to make it different. Music is "all the same" if you make it the same. Sorry, I disagree with everyone that makes this comment.

Once again, you can't own a 4 note progression. You can own the recording.

Getting pissy about someone stealing your creativity when there is no creativity involved is stupid.

Using the same logic, I should just write a hour long track that goes through every note progression possible, and complain about anyone who "steals" it. Or publish a track using a 4/4 808 kick, and sue everyone who "copies" me

Edit: also, all of his music sounds the same. Not all music.

I fund it funny that people can do cover versions and totally rape a good song, but if a producer samples the orig, they cry "burn him at the stake!"

they will have to get permission from the copyright holder to create a cover version too.

Shit i was not aware of that! Then how could uncleared samples like dre did be used? He surely didnt have permission to do a cover?

These laws just totally faak my brain!

Hence why i just ignore them!

Different laws for different places and eras. From memory the arrangement has to be so prominent that a normal person could identify it(like taking the piano stabs from Britney spears hit me baby one more time) in another work. Like I said, if I could release a track with every arrangement imaginable and sue everyone who made money, someone would have already done it.

Also, I'm fairly certain you don't need to get clearance for covers unless you are making money off them. It's when money comes in that the legal stuff starts to flare up. Imagine if the Winstons decided they wanted money for each use of the amen break...

Tom Budin said this on facebook [sic]

Whys everyone accusing people of ripping one anothers track. Deadmau5 is being a real bitch right now.

Take these for example:

1) Basto - Dance With Me

1) Raveboy & Rob Mayth - Get Up (4 Dancecore)

2)Britney Spears - Now That I Found You

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niBuj96Zt9o#t=166

2)Avicii - Wake Me Up

3)Justin Prime & Showtek - Cannonball (MELODY)

3)Neon Jungle - Braveheart (Melody)

This is not an uncommon thing. Stop fucking whining Deadnau5 you fucking bitch. I love you as a producer. Cannot ever get enough of your stuff, Brazil, Not Exactly many more.. But Jesus shut the fuck up. All of you HS Vs. House cunts are being babyish too. I love both worlds and you're being fucking groks. WAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE MUSIC... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I could easily think of way more examples. But I think I've proved my point. I've done it, I can admit it. STFU AND PARTY CUNCE!!!
