OK so as title suggests i have a macbook pro retina and want to connect up a set of krk g3's for use in a studio. will i need an external audio interface/mixer for this purpose? which ports should i be using to route out audio? just headphone jack?, usb audio out or try to find some thunderbolt out?

I have a mac pro and i use the headphone jack with a cable running into my mixer (DJM 800) from the CD/digital output channel and my KRK rokit 8's through the mixer, works fine for me

how old is the macbook pro? the new ones have different soundcards

you can do it a few ways. can buy a USB sound card, or get a little 2ch behringer mixer and use the output of the mixer to your speakers and plug your computer into the mixer. those little berry mixers are really good

oh i forgot to tell you that i also have a Macbook Pro (one of the new ones) and it works fine by using a headphone jack with the Aux jacks on the other end running into the mixer, i've only had this laptop for about 3 months

You should try to use an external soundcard via usb/firewire if possible with balanced cables.

you'll get better sound quality that way.

i was thinking of getting an a6 or a10 to run traktor, would this be suficient for producing as well rus?
