yizzle Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 In Heineken’s latest advertising campaign, the company has conducted an experiment which sets out to determine how the skills of the DJ can affect the average punter’s bar tab.Heineken studied the same club between 12:00 am and 2:00 am and with the same amount of people on two nights. However, the only difference was of course the DJ. On the first night 1078 drinks were served and on the second, only 632, a percentage difference of 41%.Of course, on the second night the DJ was Armin Van Buuren. So naturally, people are less reliant on drink to have a good time.Unless they’ve taken other substances. But what do you think? Would you drink less if you were to attend one of your favourite DJ’s performances? Would you drink more if you were after a standard night out? Or was Heineken’s experiment just another marketing campaign?Source: youredm.com Quote
Mitch Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 You may drink less per hour, but you'll probably stay longer and keep buying drinks over a longer period. Quote
AlexJ Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 yeah im not sure how legit the whole 'reveal' scenario is. i know the idea of seeing someone i like slows my drinking. i know there have been psych studies done as well as to bpm and drinking rates and trance/techno is a much higher bpm than say standard hiphop, electro, top40 etc. the music is more intense by nature--> less prone to boredom Quote
Cupe Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 It depends on the reason you're going out in the first place. When AVB isn't playing, they same people were probably saying 'lets go out and get shit faced', but when he was on they'd say 'lets go watch AVB'. Quote

That was my initial thoughts too until I watched the video. Quote

That was my initial thoughts too until I watched the video. Then it brings into question 'what is a good DJ?'And as the owner of a venue, in the long run I'd want shit DJs playing so people pay to drink more. And it's that versus a good DJ pulling more people that may not buy as many drinks each, but more in total.#business Quote
LabRat Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I reckon if the DJ is absolutely killing it people tend to hang around. I've seen this a few times I've played and have gotten into trouble for it I'm a believer that if the set is banging people won't go drink as much Quote
Cupe Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Wait, you got in trouble for playing a good set that made people stay at the venue but not purchase drinks? Quote
Cupe Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 They should just stop the music every 2 hours for 10 minutes and say 'go buy drinks and come back to d floor' Quote
OxyKon Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Happens all the time, the last gig I was at with Wrxfiend I show up and the bouncers tell us not to play hard dnb/dub, I still ended up dropping heavy dnb and guess what, no body left, and no body stopped buying drinks Quote
eggssell Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 to me doesnt make all that much diff. when i went out it was to go out. and when i club i usually drink. the djs skills just determined whether i danced or not and whether i enjoyed it or not. made not much difference to how much i drank. and when i chose a club for a dj it was because i wanted to get my dance on. so i usually knew id be dranking before kate monroe came on. and i would drank after kate monroe finished Quote
LabRat Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Wait, you got in trouble for playing a good set that made people stay at the venue but not purchase drinks?Yep. Club was jammed and during my set no one bought drinks. They weren't happy people Quote

Pending Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Well I went to the pub both Friday and Saturday nights DJ was shit on Friday and I spent 60 dollaroos but last night the DJ was sick and I only spent 15 so I tend to agree with this article. Quote

djbater Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I work at a venue where when bar sales are low they turn off the air-con. And management always have me announcing drink specials for the next 10 minutes, etc.But I have never been told to play a bad song (well at least not by management, requests are a different story) to encourage people to head to the bar.I have been told by management / security not to play certain songs as the crowd gets too rowdy.
