eggssell Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 just curious to see what other people’s vinyl buying habits are like in a year (take the last 12 months for example)the poll itself is just how many you have bought in the last 12 months, just count each record as one regardless of 7”, 12” or LPit would be good if you could also post some additional info. i.e. where did you buy these records, breaking up how much of the records you bought in the last 12 months into the categories below brick and mortar record shop local brick and mortar record shop overseas record fairs australian online shop overseas online shop discogs other private online (ebay, gumtree, adjf, etc) other (from a holmie, back of a truck etc.)love to hear from the regs, but at the sametime for the lurkers this would be a good simple post to get involved in!i will kick it off… Quote
eggssell Posted November 1, 2013 Author Posted November 1, 2013 just going off the top of my head (I mean its not an exam )brick and mortar record shop local - 3brick and mortar record shop overseas - 32record fairs - 4 Quote
Cupe Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Since having traktor (and not my own place with enough room) I haven't bought vinyl in way too long Quote
OxyKon Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 in the last 12 months ive definitely bought more than 100 records, most of them were bought while in the US over December and January, Amoeba records in SF, Rock & Soul in New York, Forever Young in Dallas, then back home i go to Mills records, thats were most of my collection is from Quote
russell Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 over 100. Majority from discogs. The rest from Hardwax in Berlin and Kristina Records in London. Quote
eggssell Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 thanks for getting on board all. drC i guess i prob shouldve made a zero. but if you buying say one limited edition box set in a year its pretty much the same as zero. moar votes and info!! Quote
BeatLeSS Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 0. Barely even touched vinyl records before. I do have a vinyl record mail holder and coin holder that the ex made for me. Quote
eggssell Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 for those that have bought records (me, oxy and russ) its interesting to see neither of us have really bought from local shops.is that availability (i.e. having what you want)? price? locality (i.e. ease to get to)? or has it just been opportunity that we bought from overseas?I know for me its a mix of opportunity and price. I think when I go into records stores here I probably am a little more picky in looking for value. like when I got those fresh prince albums I bought from the Prahran record store, I reckon if I was overseas I prob would've bought a half dozen or so more for what they wee priced at. and even when I walk past record stores in syd I only occasionally go in, while for some reason when im travelling I seem to be drawn in to check them out. russell Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Well for me the last 12 months I have been working in WA and living in Ibiza there are no record shops really. They have a few record fairs but I'm never here for them. So buying from overseas is the only way to go for me. And I do love looking for older tunes so that's where discogs comes into it in a big way for me. When I was back in Glasgow I would visit my local store regularly. Quote
