SolDios Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 There's this one place I play that the owners daughter is always a constant dick. She complains when im playing electro house and everyone is grooving along that "It's making everyone angry" which is obserd. How am I supposed to deal with her? I can't tell her to fuck off cause she's the owners daughter blablabla. Quote
Mitch Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Just one of those things you gotta deal with man. You'll have situations like this not just when you're DJing, but right throughout life. Quote
yizzle Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 yup, suck it and swallow mate.or in my experience, when you stand up to those kind of people and tell them to fuck off, next minute. they are nice to you. but it can go sour too Quote
Cupe Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Is not offtopic, don't get too silly. This is a legit concern for DJs. Quote
OxyKon Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 unfortunately Sol, this is one of those situations like everyone else has said, your just gonna have to put up with it, either that or find somewhere else to dj, i would bet for a fact that there isn't 1 dj out there that hasn't had this problem before Quote
anditz Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I could see her point of view depending on what time of the night you're playing electro house. It may not suit the time slot or the vibe that bar is going for even if the punters do enjoy it. Just something to consider. Quote

That's quite early! Quote
anditz Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Yep 11pm is a bit early - have a read of this, it's a great articlehttp://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1095 Quote
Mitch Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Yer i'd say 11pm is fairly early dude. Also that article anditz linked is a good read. Quote
SolDios Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Usually yes, venue was only open till 12 this night though, was doing it relative to that. Quote
CapFive Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I agree with the boys sol, prolly not best time for electro, some dance floor fillers would go better at this time top 40 and the likes, or what you could do is just approach the owner and ask his opinion, don't say she is pissing you off, just say she mentioned it and ask what he thinks you should play, and if he says listen to her, then he is the boss so do what he says Quote

CapFive Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Interesting got any samples of the songs? Were they remixes? Quote
anditz Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 It doesn't matter if it's top40. Swedish house mafia was top40 and I wouldn't be playing that at 11. Go for a more chilled vibe, dancey - but chilled. Disco works Quote

Mitch Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Personally I'd never play their stuff, regardless of time. But to answer above q: no I wouldn't play them at 11pm even if it's an hour before close. Big room and 11pm don't mix Quote
anditz Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Wait I didn't know they closed at midnight. I'm not sure it's a tricky situation. I wouldn't play top40s regardless but yeah maybe try something different like top40s from 10-15 years back. Quote
SolDios Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 The main weird bit was that the crowd were loving it, even the other bar staff, only that one bar member had the problem. Quote
anditz Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 The owner might have a certain direction with where she wants the night to go. When managing a bar its not always about creating a fun commercial environment. Perhaps she has a vision of sorts and wants to mold the night into whatever that idea is. Quote
Skank Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 you could tone the electro back a bit and try play some more commercial top 10 tracks that have been remixed for the club (super cheese) the sort of stuff you hear on the radio on the weekend. That way you will be able to say hey im playing the chart and its up beat Quote
