Looking for DJ's in Brisbane to help set up uni club

Hey.

Well I'm keen to get the "Electronic Artists Society" at the Univesity of Queensland (clubs and societies) going again.

Since I have very little DJ knowledge, I need a couple of DJ's willing to help set it up, attend some meetups every few weeks, and generally help out and pass on your knowledge through lessons.

UQ Market day is coming up in 3 months time. We will set up a stand at the uni and play some music on the day and get people interested in signing up.

I was also thinking that we can earn enough money to buy our own equipment for the club, instead of hiring things out.

Maybe earn enough to play with the CDJ2000's :D

I hosted a BBQ for a club and we earned over $500 in profit in one day. If you work it out, we can earn a CDJ2000 in around 1 week.

WHAT THE CLUB DOES:

Meet up ever few weeks to talk about stuff.

Hold classes, DJ lessons etc. eg. Hip hop class, House class

Play music at launch parties, and anyone that wanted to DJ could give it a go.

Play music at the Red Room Bar now and then.

and more...

I'm currently in contact with one of the past presidents of the club, trying to get more info.

They had over 500 members at one point. Somehow it died out.

We might also hit up local businesses and clubs for discounts - 5% off drinks or records could be a good thing to offer prospective members.

Maybe get sponsoship as well.

From what I know we get $500 to start the club.

I'll update with more info later.

hit up store dj for support, might get a discount if you promote them heavily, business cards, fliers, have stickers and advertising for them on your stands...

worth a try

Yeah that's what I'm going to do once I get a few DJ's to help out first. The club actually got free hire and stuff because they advertised them alot.

Does anyone wanna hold monthly / fortnightly dj lessons?

I need a few dj's to hold classes (possibly in lecture theatres with your hands projected onto the big screen).

If I get good enough by half a years time I could hold a class too, but that means lots of practice.

Hopefully we earn enough money to buy one or two CDJ 2000s, and a certain amount of CDJ 400s and other gear for the club if we are lucky.

I'd probably be interested :), but I'm on the Gold Coast so depends on how often, exact location etc...

Hey mate. It's up to you. I'm trying to organise something at least once or twice or month, but I'll definitely need help on the 24th of February for the whole day (to get people to sign up for the club, dicuss a little about the club, play some sets either on stage or at the stall taking turns throughout the day, discuss djing stuff)

The rest will be teaching / learning how to dj. Playing live sets at the Red Room Bar at the campus (still need to ask the manager but they did it a few years ago). Sharing a bit of your knowledge etc.

Location is in Brisbane, St Lucia (University of QLD Campus).

Ok guys.

So far I have:

Wazza

Caleupe

Tomy

Willing to help out.

I have emailed them this:

Anyone can reply with their ideas etc.

What are some possible events / money raising events we can hold in the year for this club?

- DJ Lessons at Uni (monthly / fortnightly)

- Parties? (Alcohol Licence / Security guard needed ect.)

- Regular gigs at the Red Room Bar at University of Queensland

- BBQ’s to earn money (with or without music?)

- Monthly sets at UQ Union area?

Which local clubs / music stores should we ask for discounts, sponsorship etc?

- Lightsounds (Valley)

-

What times can you help out on Market Day in 24 February and what times?

- Jaytee (throughout the day)

Who can let us borrow equipment for market day / events until the club earns enough to buy it's own from its own money?

- Hiring out equipment

- ADJF Users brings some equipment

What can we use for the $750 grant from Clubs and Societies?

- Save until further use

- Invest in money raising events

- Use some money for other purposes

The club previously published a CD from music from its members, who would be able to help with this?

- Music students?

When will be a good time for a future meeting to sort things out, location and if you are able to persuade a few DJ friends to help out?
