russell Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I don't get it...How would anything happen without paying customers? Quote
yizzle Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 i understand that there is a need for charge at the door, to pay artists etc. etc.but they charge waaaay to much. at least down here they do.most clubs are roughly $30 at the door. Quote
OxyKon Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 the charges are stupidly over priced, if anything, i reckon it should go to the artists the clubs have come through, the clubs make enough money off the bar prices, especially in this country, its all stupidly over priced, hence why i don't go out any more Quote
ChevChelios Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 As long as it's a reasonable price, I think it's fine, especially if they're hosting an international artist. Quote
russell Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 An entry fee should be relative to what guests are playing. For example, the sub club.. when they have a guest it's usually around the £12 - £15 mark. when they don't have a guest it's £5 for the residents. Fair enough. Remember that in most clubs it's the promoter who pays the artist... they usually make their money from the door. The club takes the bar money. Quote
SolDios Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 In adelaide it isn't too bad, usually only $10 entry everywhere, but its usually free before 11pm Quote
mattus123 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 i think its fair that clubs charge for entryi know in some clubs (and i wouldnt be surprised if this is for all of them), but the cover charge pays for staff (bar/security etc) and DJs. the bar is pretty much profit Quote
Cupe Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 Poll is even at the moment but discussion seems one sided Quote
GREMM1S Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Majority of clubs the owner takes the bar and the promoter takes the door.Promoter pays for djs, promotions, door staff and any extra production/equipment.Some overcharge and are just milking their punters but majority couldnt operate without a door charge. That said anything over 20 would want to be big name djs or one hell of a club. Quote
Kodiak Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Cover charge to get into the local shit holes is a ripoff. I'd be happy to pay if they actually provided anything other than a shitty environment and over priced drinks. The punters are definitely not there for the music and there is next to no atmosphere. So what exactly am I paying for? Quote
crundyy Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 pretty happy with paying $20-$25 or $40 for the Ivy, it's not that much. Quote
Kodiak Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 So what exactly am I paying for?slutsThis is Gladstone... Mega sausage fest at the clubs. Quote
GREMM1S Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 pretty happy with paying $20-$25 or $40 for the Ivy, it's not that much.If it's a decent night like pacha fair enough, otherwise they can get fucked. Why pay that sort of money to go to a pretentious wank fest devoid of any atmosphere. Quote

Newcastle is $15 when someone big is touring. Danse Macabre (night that me and mates run at King St) is $10 entry and we get a guest to headline each time. Sydney is a joke but $30 to see the same headliners that were playing last week... and the week before... and the week before. Unless it's someone touring that is sick it's not reasonable. In regards to the discussion, yes i think the door charge is necessary Quote
crundyy Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Ive only gone there for Pacha and always been a good night, I paid $60 for a courtyard/grubstep thing there and wanted there and wanted to jump off the balcony. srs. I go for the nicely dressed girls and normal music. Quote
Tomy Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 i'm fine with cover up to $10 unless its some massive booking. but if its $10 on the door, don't make your drinks $10 each thats just fucked Quote
