LiLMuNZtA Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 So just kind of chucking this out there but I have a heap of lighting equipment along with a 18in sub and a Canon 600D camera and was wondering if anyone would be keen on running events and want to team up or something? I use to run events down the coast but up here in Sydney I have no idea where to start along with venues and also the promoting. Been trying to get dj gigs up here for awhile and not getting very far haha the ideal kind of setup id like is to find a venue and setup all the lights and sub permanently and then every week or two weeks have a lineup of djs playing. If anyone has close contact with a "not so famous" venue and is keen let me know The event I use to run was called Wicked and here's one of the videos I made for it edit by Mitch: fixed youtube link Quote
DJSocialApp Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hey Bud, The big thing with Sydney at the moment is there is a large amount of promoters with very strong followings running most of the clubs, not to mention have personal ties with international & national headline acts.If you want to do a gig like the one you explained best looking for a cool pub or bar & from here work your way into the clubs. Its a cut throat gig mate and lots of people have attempted and given up after a while.Best of luck with it all !! Quote
LiLMuNZtA Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Hey man,Yeah definitely is like that, even the promotors have connections with other promoters and team up. Not really looking at doing massive dj gigs though anyway just as you said, a cool pub or bar would be ace. It's just finding one hahaCheers though Quote
GREMM1S Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 What about a more local event?Your local pub etc. Quote
GREMM1S Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Also there is big potential for new nights, as Sydney/The cross has become really stale in general lately. Quote
LiLMuNZtA Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Just got my hands onto a place last night and havent ever heard of the nightlife being called "stale" haha but guess thatll work in my favour which is good haha Quote
eggssell Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 sydney needs more live art/ art w tunes events. like what lofi collective do and the other gallery near maccas alexandria Quote
LiLMuNZtA Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Never been to or heard of that kind of thing before, will have to sus it out haha Quote
eggssell Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 its awesome. i havent been for a minute, but a lot of the ones in oz are just art displays while a dj plays. though occassionally the art is live. in the US they have heaps more where artists paint live.the lofi collective hold them at the standard (upstairs from kinsellas)oxford art factory do the secret walls, which i guess is live art.there was also a cool one at the rocks sometime during the summer Quote
eggssell Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 some of the ones i went toviewtopic.php?f=118&t=8584&hilit=lofiviewtopic.php?f=118&t=5521&hilit=lofioh yeh and it wasnt alexandria, it was waterloo. ambush gallery. this was an awesome night. dj's rocked it. free vodka. and i ended up meeting sprinkles and commissioning a perso pieceviewtopic.php?f=118&t=8034&hilit=sprinklesand its not just a graf or hip hop thang. all art. all tunes. the one at the rocks (which i never did post photos) wasnt graf and it was soul music Quote
GREMM1S Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 sydney needs more live art/ art w tunes events. like what lofi collective do and the other gallery near maccas alexandriaNo thanks. It needs the focus put back onto good music and having fun. Not the pretentious wanker gatherings most clubs are. Quote
GREMM1S Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Btw not dissing live art events, that's just not what the scene needs at all. Quote
eggssell Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 ?? why would art events have to be a wanker event?seems a bit judgemental. that ambush gallery was massively fun. everyone seemed to be chill as fark dranking and enjoying good tunes.and i aint saying replacing the club scene im saying ontop of. Art events are cool but not sure they are the answer to Sydney's scene. Quote
