Cupe Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 In their first interview since the leak of their fourth studio album, Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter has told Mixmag that they think it's healthy if some people hate the album. When asked what they thought of the initial reactions to the album, Thomas said: "Some people seem to love it while some people seem to hate it which is extremely healthy. Art and music is about triggering debate and different reactions and the most depressing reaction for an artist is indifference."The Daft Punk man went on to compare the initial reaction to the album to that of what many people consider to be their masterpiece, 2001's 'Discovery'."When 'Discovery' came out, the initial reactions were very similar. Time will usually tell with these sorts of things."Full article details: http://www.mixmag.net/words/news/daftpu ... -the-album Quote
GREMM1S Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Still as much as they said people initially disliked their other stuff, this album won't change music like their previous works did. It's a concept/statement album rejecting EDM to me.Which i completely understand and it's very musically sound, but i was hoping they would make something to really bring some fresh sounds and influence back to dance music. russell Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I've finally got round to listening to the album. I think it's dope. Pretty much what I was hoping for from them. This is their best work since Homework. Quote

eggssell Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 i like it. i am a disco fan though.having been around pre and post daft punk, i still find it hard to understand what people were expecting. da funk, which for me (and australian television) was the first track that really blew up. and it was a great track during a time dance music was pretty massive. but i think everything post the first album has been commercial dance. not that there is anything wrong with that. i mean their second album was nothing but commerical dance and pop album. and i think maybe the issue (at least for some on this forum), people discovered daft punk during your pre-cubbing age; and without knowledge of buying music outside of itunes/ hmv/ etc. your comparison ability would have been less. but now that you have a greater pool of music to compare with you may be being critical.anyways my two cents. i bought it. and i like it. yizzle Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I like the album. I was expecting something different. But it nice to be surprised Quote
GREMM1S Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Wow completely disagree it will change anything, their old stuff created electro in many senses, this time around they have just made closer to funk not pushing any boundaries. Quote

djbater Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I bought the album over the weekend, and have listed start to finish a few times. The tracks that stand out to me are get lucky, give life back to music, and fragments of time. Not a fan of the one with the voice over, and there is another track that sounds like the background music of the info channel when you are staying in a hotel... but it is their album so they can do what they want. Addi Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I dig the album. First time listening I liked it, second time through I loved it. It hasn't left the cd player in my car. A lot of people are dissing daft punk because they think they own them or expect them to release something purely to please their wants, but it wasn't what they wanted/expected, and I think thats the best thing DP could of done. They released something THEY loved, not what some of their 'fans' wanted. As they said, it's better for the album to have purely postive/negative reviews rather then a lot of middle ground opinions. I hear they are releasing a remix album too? Quote

Jaz Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 everyone had their expectations too high, as if they were going to listen to the album for the 1st time and it would change the way they see the universe... peepl are stuepid Quote

Tomy Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 i think the album is really really really good. i've listened to it heaps now. i like what they've done. I think its interesting that a group so invested in the "future of music" and being heavily invested in futurism can suddenly say, ok everyone stop what your doing, we were wrong we need bands and instruments and real shit. amirite? yizzle Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 The tracks that stand out to me are get lucky, give life back to music, and fragments of time.in relation to OP its what you like/hate. and we are all individuals I cant get enough of Within, Doin' it right, Contact & Giorgio by moroder. but, thats personal taste for you. this album strikes me as a really well balanced what you want vs what you dont want vs what they want Quote
