Violence at Gigs

so obviously everyone has been exposed to some sort of violence at a gig eg. crowd fights ect. but i wanted to know if many people, as the DJ of the event had gotten started on and had someone actually throw a punch/ what they did to resolve the situation.

From what i gather your asking, how would i as a dj handle a situation in which something attacked me?

These questions are always hard to answer accurately though, cause its one thing to think it, but so much different if/when it actually happens

Id like to think that id just make sure security got him kicked out and then continued on with my set.

if it was a private party id probs refuse to play until the guy had been kicked out of the party, leave it upto the the party host, not to mention it would probs embarrass the guy that hit you- having the music stop because he was acting like a whale

last gig i did some whale punched me fair in the mouth (bleeding gums and all) because his gf was requesting a track.

I could not hear her so she was leaning over the decks to me. prob look like something dodge. anyway her bf hit me in the gob.

got resolved by him getting a 1 year ban and I partied all night.

yeah well i never thought it would happen either, but apparently the kid 'didn't like the look of me? and after leaning in to hear what he was saying (probably talking major shit) he proceeded to head butt me..

party then ended up getting shut down by the venue host due to 250+ kids going a little too insane off their cruisers and passion pop.

i've seen a chick belt a dj, but i believe they had some sort of history... it was early in the night, and the way it happened seemed like she knew he was going to be djing at that venue at that particular time and it was a targeted attack.

I think everyone has seen fights in clubs, but they seem to be fairly rare in the venues that i've been to in recent years.

I had some guy take exception to me one time in a club (not sure why, i wasn't even drinking that night), and he punched me in the mouth and ran away.... one of the biggest WTF moments in my life. Who does that?

I've been at places where there have been all in brawls whilst i have been DJing. Particularly back in the day at the wheelers. I was told never to turn down the music if a fight broke out as it only makes it worse. Most of the scuffles these days involve security guards and punters that don't want to leave.

Once I was doing a Greek Wedding in brighton and was under strict instructions about music to play from the bride and groom. There was one guy there, (fesh of the boat greek), was not happy that i didn't take his request and was giving me a hard time. Got me in a headlock, and threw me to the ground... others jumped in and helped me (including the groom), and I was ready to stop playing and pack up, but being a wedding and then couple being nice i didn't want that to ruin there wedding. So i kept playing on the proviso that if something happened again i would stop the music and pack up. Sure enough, he came up and took a swing... and i packed up and left about half way through.

Yeah i have only ever seen two fights in clubs.

One at Club 77 which was over in like 2 minutes both guys were sweet after a few swings kept partying.

And of course one at my local pub the mill full of lebbos and fobs etc, one bouncer clean knocked out two dudes was epic.

Two guys were requesting songs on each side of me, then one guy started punching the other and somebody got bottle behind me. Called security, party was over.
