last time I was in the market the vestax pdx 2000 was all the buzz.

and I know the Technics 1210 and 1200 MKII are discontinued.

So what vinyl decks are on the market and considered reasonable for someone who wants to take it serious, can afford to buy pro and insists on vinyl.

Cheers all.

any of the super oem's go alright.

ive got the Stanton 150's and they go alright.

vestax is qberts choice of brand so prob cant go wrong either with those. especially if coin isn't a worry.

you can still get new or close to new techs from japan, but yeh prepare to bend over and bring your own lube

Super OEM is a bunch of turntables that all use the same core made in China, with different exteriors, badging and tonearms. Aimed af being a lower quality/knockoff of a 1200 in a sense. There is probs a list somewhere of the models that are.

Have a look at the Stanton st 150 and the vestax pdx 3000

Lube or not do you happen to know if any of the Kyoto techs come ready for UK voltage?

1210s, if I remember right, have a voltage switch underneath the platter, which allows you to switch between japanese/american voltage and ours. 1200s don't have this. Not sure if that feature was available on all 1210 models so you'd have to ask whoever you were buying it from.

And I never even heard of OEM?

got any good links or do I have to sift google for myself?

Stanton ST-150 (and STR8-150), Citronic PD-45, SYNC XTRM1, Reloop RP6000, Omnitronic DD5200 and American Audio HTD4.5 are some common ones, although there's probably more. A manufacturer in China produces a base model, and each brand puts their own stickers and crap onto it.

Whether it'd be worth getting one over a used technics is debatable. There are some great deals that pop up every now and again (I got my mk5 from Japan for $500 shipped, hardly used), and you know you're getting a quality product that has a ton of replaceable parts. With the OEM products, you can get them cheaper and usually new, but the tradeoff is that they haven't stood the test of time like technics have.

lower quality/knockoff of a 1200 in a sense

i dont know if that is a true statement

knockoff yes. basically when the rights ran out for the use of the magnetic drive companies copied it

but would not agree with lower quality. spec wise (torque and features etc.) most of them out do the techies. and if anyone has ever played with the stanton 150s with the newer logos, they are tanks. so hard to say lower quality

of course whether higher torque (at least past a certain level) or fandango features are of any relevance is argueable

I can vouch for vestax pdx2000's! i've had mine since 01 and still going strong, ok aesthetically there not that pleasing to the eye but damn strong. It takes me a while to get used to 1210's when i get to use them, as they are much weaker imho.

But i still sport wood for the 1210!

happy to swap with anyone who's keen!

^cheers all

doesnt look like that much has changed then:

Stanton St150 and Vestax PDX series still leading the field for competitors.

With the 1200/1210s being preferred if can find a pair.

OR many other options if want to go a bit budget/

Would I be laughed off the forum if i was to start a "technics 1200 porn thread"

After over's thread today, i went googling the mighty 1210 and had to rub one out!

There are so many artistic/designer type shots of this glorious instrument, i would like to share some with you all
