MintyCondition Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I don't know where to post this, so please admins move this accordingly.Anyways I want to join up with another DJ and just tag along to their gigs to get a feeling of the skills and needs that it takes to be a dj. Would anybody be interested to take me along to a few of their gigs? I live in Melbourne. Quote
mattus123 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 in all honesty i couldnt imagine u getting to much out of going with friends and watching them.. no more than jsut watching another Dj in the booth. If you were really keen, next time u go out jsut watch what the DJ does for 20 mins, in alot of clubs u can see what the DJ is doing without going directly into the booth and harassing him/herAs terms of skills needed.. the skills needed to DJ a club are pretty much the exact same as the skills needed to DJ a bedroom, except for reading the crowd.. but that skill can only really be learnt with practice not really by watching someone else Quote
anditz Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 come watch me and geordsta this thursday at liberty social. it's going to be messy. i will be completely rude. Quote
Gandy Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 best thing you can do, is suss out a club you want to play at, find out what genre they play, and practise recording warm up sets ie. 9-10pm, 10pm-11pm sets. Straight out of the gate you wont be getting the good times, and a good warm up act can be nearly as important as the main eventpick your favourite genre, pick the clubs that play your favourite genres, then start making 30-60 min warm upsets as practise.most important thing about a warm up set is NOT playing main set bangers of that genre of the main act, post some mixes here and we can critique them for you.also as a side recommendation depending on your experience and theory background look up MIK and PN Quote
OxyKon Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Pretty much what Gandy said, you just gotta hit the clubs you wanna play at and get in right with promoters, check this out tooviewtopic.php?f=43&t=11882Found this some time last year, is really worth the read, the guy goes into mass detail Quote
