Selected Jerks 2001-2009 is a collection of personal musical explorations created by Kimberley Isaac Moyes. Produced in the same said time period, Selected Jerks 2001-2009 acts as a musical clearing of the slate, nine years of artistic growth bundled up and set loose, paving way for future expeditions deep into inner and outer space. Deep into the rave cave.

Selected Jerks 2001-2009 perfectly encapsulates the gamut of musical and personal evolution that Kim has run, from the wide-eyed boy fresh from music school in 2001, through the thrilling trajectory his day job in The Presets has taken since beginning in 2003, on to his current role, as a kind of modern day rave patron.

This veritable nest egg of tracks has almost hatched several times already this century, with tracks have fleeing the roost in limited quantities in different countries at differing times. Wet ‘n Wild appeared first on Cutters Records, By The Time That They Reach You came out on Bang Gang 12 Inches, Fistogram and Party Machini both appeared as Modular 12”s, and a combination of tracks appeared on an out of print Japan-only mini album on the Rallye label.

Herein however, is the authoritative guide to the complete catalogue of Kim’s works to date, available together on CD and digitally from October 30. It combines the few tracks previously available with many completely unreleased, with a 2nd disc collecting the various remixes of his work that have been commissioned.

The sounds too capture a kind of Jekyll and Hyde personality at work over the years, with those tracks obviously aimed squarely at the dancefloor perfectly offset by a series of wistfully melancholy, downbeat dreamsuites. Tracks like Wet ‘n Wild and Fistogram still sound perfectly primed for any discerning dancefloor, and added to these monsters is an updated version of System Breakdown and a brilliantly brutal minimal techno number called No Imagination that perfectly exemplifies one side of Kim today.

On the flipside is the more downtempo, curious side to Kim’s work, from the spastic drum machine meltdown of Tools Of The Trade, the open-field lope of Gold Rush and Tired Of Wasting, the misty eyed romanticism of Be Home Soon, and the stunningly mesmerizing atmosphere of Out Here In The Stratosphere.

Combined, these two seemingly disparate approaches make for a beautifully balanced overview of one individual’s musical landscape.

And not a moment too soon.
