ive been asked to dj byfriends of friends Lol

but ive rejected them all. its been for a school formal and a birthday party at some hall/venue. haha i feel bad but i would feel worse if i went there to dj and fucked it up since ive havent even made any mixes yet. LOL

What should i do if i do get asked ?? haha i dont want to stuff up something so special to someone and them hating me for it.

Discuss :) did i make the right choice? or should i do it any way and get the experience and stuff them all HAHa :D

To be honest, if its for a formal or a birthday party, i would say no one really case THAT much about how well you mix,

(well i mean you cant be terrible, but it wont matter if you wreck a few of them), i would say all you need to do is play all the tunes requested, no matter how utterly shit they may be and keep a few big obvious tunes (eg riverside) at the ready incase things get quite.

Aslong as you dont play minimal or trance for 5 hours straight i think it will be a success

i would have taken them, good experience and free stuff or money for doing something you enjoy

Find out what they expect from the night.

If they say they want some "bangin set, that sends them on a harmonic journey through wonders of dance music"... then don't do it lol.

But if they say, "yeah whatever man, play that sexy bitch song man!! ill give you a copy, off that onelove album I downloaded off limwire!!" then do it lol. formal is risky, cus it'll be an entire school and you'll have adults and teachers observing. def b'day parties though.

yah dude do that party for sure,

i did my first party last week. i fucked up a few times (due to being more fucked up then the people dancing to my set haha) but it was all in good fun. we just had a laugh, i corrected and it was all cheers.

actualy come to think of it the 2 times i only realy fucked up was because of mates jumping behind the decks with me and just mashing the play button. couldnt get angry but because they were good mates.

bastards haha

btu yeah go for it man. nothing to lose

lol, that was wack.

umm, well do you have ne practice in analogue mixing?

This is the quality of a set you would expect to hear in your average club:

October Demo (analogue mix) by Chris Gould

Now, you should be up to this standard if you want to do serious gigs like that formal, IMO anyway.

Find out what gear they have and what they expect. Why dont you do some simple wedding style mixing for this event, then work on getting yourself to the standard referred to above.

Oh and I'm not calling myself awesome, I just think I could comfortably walk into a club and produce a quality set.
