Jaytee
Hey guys. This is a track I've been working on (mix).Have a listen here: Childrens Dream Flight (Jaytee Mix) by user1831214 Comment what you think!----------------Some errors I picked up:Intro beat should slowly increase in volume or should I start off with a bang?Intro piano should slowly fade in.Remove the buzzing noise (solved).Let the piano be the dominant tune.Remove cheesy effects of flanger or lessen noticeability. I think I had the piano party on echo / or had it too slow coming up with the shaky noise.
CBG
I'm not too sure about this genre of music, but most dance music songs have two breakdowns, to braek the repetition. Structurally this song is wack.Otherwise, pretty cool.I would place this song in the ambience category. Pretty new age genre, similar to minimal
Jaytee
Haha I'm still learning the structure of dance songs. This one I just messed around with, still in progress. Did a quick mix to see what it would sound like. What do you mean by breakdowns?Yes New age music / Ambience nails it straight on. I tried use music to create an artpiece, to create an relaxing atmosphere instead of the pounding techno I usually listen.
ChevChelios
Breakdown is something that gives the song a break from the main riff/pattern or whatever, just so its not majorly repetetive, which dance music is. Usually cut down on layers even down to just the beat, maybe introduce a new melodic line or something, you can also put in like a second intro kind of thing, just whatever fits.Haven't listened to this yet btw, Ill listen in the morning. CBG
Jaytee, try and find somewhere to learn the structure of music. Wish I could point you in the right direction.Once you do this, DJing will become far easier.i.eIntro - about 16-48 barsMainBreakdownBridge/VerseMainBreakdownMain OutroThis is the hook by BSODMad song, that basically has a computer (deadmau5) voice narrating his way through the structure of the songie."i like the bass, I like the groove but I digress""I like the bass, it's catchy you like it""this is the hook, it's catchy you like it"Breakdown 1"now it is time for the breakdown, the breakdown allows the track to breath and breaks the repitition""Lets filter the hi-hat, let's filter the chorus, let's filter the bass""I like the filters, I like the groove, but i digress""you like it"Breakdown 2"now you should notice that the dancefloor is reacting""look up from your decks, look at the audience, it is important to show you are alive"End"if the DJ does not have the next track cued by now, he or she is fucked..." ChevChelios
To be honest, structurely i dont think it was that bad, I quite enjoyed it, you dont have to do everything one way structurely just so it will work for djing. You had an intro, main, break, build/outro thing which I liked, kind of teasing the listener for the main again which would make them want to listen to the song again. Good job. Jaytee
Thanks for all the replies. I taught myself how to mix by observing others and watching video tutorials, still learning at the moment. This is a great help. Great reply by CBG. I know that most electronic music has 4 beats to a bar and 4 bars to a section or something like that.
