Broken
Taken from something another guy said on another forum ( i swear thats all i do) but he has a pointdo you think now that you produce (if you do) music that you have a new appreciation for songs? or vice versa, you pick apart songs and judge them based on their production values and not if you actually enjoy the song.p.s not saying you have to be or i am a talented produce, i think even beginners start to listen like that, imitation is what i started out doing.i never thought about it like that, but whenever i listen to a song im always trying to figure out how they did this or that, or always trying to dig deeper into it to try and find stuff i haven't noticed beforelike the other guy said it sounds incredibly pretentious, but im pretty sure for most of us its true.ddddiiiiiiscussss
Cupe
defs true.i listen to songs and picture them as layers in reason or some shitworking out where they drop in and out, and how many layers they'd be using and shitWith production as the heaviest area of my musical background this is foreal
JonnyB
agree 100% man. im always trying to figure out how they made the bass or what the melody would look like in my piano roll and picturing the drum pattern.nice topic this

Jaytee
So true, ever since I started mixing I've been critically analysing other people's songs and try to find out how they did it.
Tomy
yeh very true man. Its like in high school when you learn about film, panning, scene's etc all that crap. after that you watching movies going "oh that camera angle is showing him as a dominate figur blah blah blah"
Jaytee
Yeah, it doesn't have to be in music. I'm studying town planning I've started analysing all the buildings and stuff around me like this area has a low security rating, there's a lack of accessbility in this area... the brisbane city square looks shit etc. etc.

Broken
Yeah truth, it would apply to pretty much any sort of creative thing.its a 50/50, it would be good to go back to just enjoying a track for no reason at all, but i like analyzing and picking it apart heaps too. CBG
I can choose to just enjoy a song quite easily
Broken
Trying to remember what i actually meant by that.I can just enjoy a track, but i often have a reason (to do with the production of it) not just because its catchyya dig? ChevChelios
yeh very true man. Its like in high school when you learn about film, panning, scene's etc all that crap. after that you watching movies going "oh that camera angle is showing him as a dominate figur blah blah blah"LOL english. I like to listen to a track and then take the bassline or the lead and try to reverse synthesize it, I can rarely do it well but if you can get good at it you can pretty much make any lead you want cause you learn how the waves interact with each other and stuff, I like picking apart the drums and perc. to, thats always fun
