Cupe Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 It's sad but true, following in the foot steps of last Novemeber's cassette walkman axe, Sony have announced that from March 2013 they will no longer be manufacturing and shipping their classic MiniDisc players and stereo systems. With more than 20 years production behind the MiniDisc it will now be added to the long list of obsolete formats. Sony had previously tried to revive the format back in 2004 with Hi-MD which could hold up to 1GB worth of tracks but by that point the mp3 players had already taken over the market. The silver lining is that Sony have said that they will continue to produce the discs themselves and repair any broken MiniDisc systems. overit Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Aw man, sounds like MD was to you what C90 was to me.MD was always a stepping stone between wax and cloud to me.Just like DAT. Quote
Kodiak Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 The only MD player I ever saw was a friend of mine, who was at the Gold Coast for a week for BDO. There was this Asian dude staying at the same hotel who was always at the casino. One day he lost big and sold most of his stuff, including a MD Walkman to my mate. The next day he had won, so bought back the stuff, but for less than he sold it for. Next day he had lost again, so my mate bought the stuff from him for less than he originally paid. So effectively made money out of the guy twice. Quote
