CBG
I've never seen one. Most 'PC DJ's would reside in pubs n crap, i.e venues that no one cares about. The point is that these PC DJs know where their place is and they are never going to suceed. I say let them have their fun and move on. Cue Barstards...
tramonte
Depends what we are talking about. DVS or stuff like Ableton with controllers?I've seen plenty of DVS systems (Serato/Traktor) used around the place, even saw a guy rock it with a VCI-300 (and I know the guy can rock it with vinyl and cd).I don't often/rarely see a controller in effect, but plenty of times see the DVS systems going. All depends, DVS is just the same as vinyl or cd, I use vinyl, cd and serato and prefer mixing with vinyl and cd. But sometimes it's good to have all your music in front of you (makes it great for pulling out classics).
ChevChelios
A fair few international acts like Danger and stuff just use ableton and a controller. Never seen any resos using that stuff though

pill
I see a few people using serato in clubs in Perth. Or at least i hope it's that and not VirtualDJ...
Tomy
pc? as in serato or as in night life system?
tubby
seen a few pubs use things like pcdj for top 40, that kind of thing. A few peple using midi controllers, but not seen anyway trying to actively dj with just a laptop and keyboard.
skyblue
Hello all,I have seen a guy in the "Techno and Dance" room at the local pool hall / night club thingy crap place working with Vdj and a Vestax 100 controller. I was having a chat to him and asked why he was not using the clubs cdj1000mk3's sitting right next to him.. his excuse was " I hate carrying around cd's" .. ok fair enough but why Vdj I asked him? Is it a good program to use? I questioned.. He said he preffered it due to it being what he knows. As I kept watching him "mix" I knoticed that he was having a little trouble, prob because he did not want me to see that he was using that sync button instead of actually listening to it lol... The mix that he did in front of me was slightly off beat as he put it through to the crowd (crowd being 4 other people in the room), he tried to pull it back into beat however ... he pulled the platter the wrong way..owch! as he quickly cutt the prevoius track I smiled to myself... all the visual displays in the world telling you where the beat lies in relation to the other and you still managed to stuff it up... you muppet... He later told me the club was paying him $250 for working from 8.30pm - 1.30am five hours lol, my mates who have been resident at some of melbournes top clubs get that for an hour n half set lol..Also I heard a rumour once that Hard Kandy have run all there sound through a computer for perfect mixing for years.. however I have no idea if this is really true.. yet he has told me a few times so maybe?? Jaytee
Well honestly I believe as long as the sound outputted from the speakers rocks the crowd, then that's good enough for me.Quoted from a Brisbane Hip Hop DJDigital killed Vinyl; Facebook/Myspace killed the traditional flyer; Festivals are killing the superclubs; Either change with the scene or the scene will change you...Embrace the new evolution. No one really cares how much skill you have as long as you play good tracks and put up a good presentation. With technology getting better, mixing and scratching will become more and more easier. Of course within the DJ community, everyone likes to be competitive in skill. But for the listeners, they're more into having a good time rather than worrying if the DJ made a mistake here and there. Some even say seeing the BPM, the waveform etc. is cheating. I think as long as you do your job to play songs and to rock the party / club, then it's all good. But then again you might look like a noob using Virtual DJ or PC DJing

CBG
yeah thats retarded, how could you have your monitor in the wrong place...? It's the most fundamental part of setting up a dj booth.

And you belive they all stuffed up due to the moniters being in a weird place? Hard Kandy does not have a permanant venue, so placement of monitors would vary from venue to venue?meh i dunno... SourceRaver
Mmmm...A lot of folks seem to get a bit bent out of shape about automatic beatmixing. I wonder what it was like when CDJ's were first introduced..."What do you mean you dont have to re-que the track everytime!? It remembers it?? Thats gotta be cheating!"To be honest tho, I get really BORED between tracks when I'm using VDJ and would fell like a bit of a cheat if i were using for anything more public than a wedding or house party. skyblue
I was mearly repeating what a friend had said to me, I dont know what software they would use, if any due to it being hear say as I said in the first place. I wasn't havin a go bro just asked some q's is all cos I did not understand your post. The reason I stated the rumours was due to my mate being good friends with scotty from HK so I belived that he would have some insight into their set up. Yet as I personally do not know and have not played there I stated that I had no idea if it was true.
DjDennis
all I will say is - if they get caught without format shift licenceswell lol thats their problem if the club closes and the owner is fined many thousands of $$$$like this one that peewee ferris was in the crap for lol(from March 11th 2005)This is to add on what's been happening in Australia with actual prosecutions.------Dj's to pay damages for copyright breachesTwo Sydney Dj's and a record company have been ordered to pay at least $500,000 in damages for illegally using songs on compilation CD's. In 2002, Dj Christopher Fraser Smith, also known as Criss Kross, put out several dance compilation CD's through his company Tower Records. But the Federal Court has found he and the DJ who mixed the CDs, Peter Ferris or peewee ferris, knew they did not have copyright clearance for a number of the tracks. Smith and Tower Records has been ordered to pay $450,000 and Ferris has been ordered to pay $50,000 in damages to several Record Companies. Justice Jacobson found that threatening text messages was sent by Smith to different people who would not grant copyright, called for a very large penalty. The amount of damages to be paid for the actual sale of the CDs is yet to be calculated.
