eggssell
okay this is going from mine and wrx's convo in the whinge fred.everyday im gonna post up a hip hop track im feeling (i might push the term hip hop, i.e. might just have a rap part or sample, might be just a break beat etc)mainly new but might rip out a classic. If i miss a day or two ill bomb it when i do get on to catch up. i guess allows those not in the scene to have a source other than kyle and jackie o and smash hits. and those in the scene to see what im into. also allows me to be totally selfish and post in a thread no one may ever look at enjoy. Ignore. Whatevers clever.
eggssell
murs & fashawn - the othersidefrom their recent collabo album this generation. This is a great album, not because it has murs, but just because of its subject and style variety. beats by beatnick and k-salaam. this particular track has an old school r&b feel (and no not the usher timberlake rnb you might be thinking of)
eggssell
todays pickrapsody - kind of lovefrom her debut album the idea of beautiful. production on this track and most of the album by her label head 9th wonder (one of my fave hip hop producers right now). track is typical of 9th sampled based beats. enjoy

overit
best fred. That philly shit was hard but tight. Couldnt decide if I kept watching for the beats or those steak sanger piccies loving that raspody track too. Reminded me a lot of when common and erykah badu dropped some soulful vibes a few years ago.So... I think i posted this before somewhere but anyway, this is from my backyard, hence the broad yorkshire accents. We actually had these boys supporting lord finesse last tuesday. I couldnt go and was gutted. Hope you can dig it gents:

eggssell
i know i posted this in TOTD already, but just reheard this track yest (refer whinge fred where i tried to buy on release date but it wasnt avail in aus itunes!).anyways cant talk the future of hip hop without mentioning odd future. not saying i love everything that comes out the camp, but 80-90% of it mos definitely. all the cats have there own flows. and the beats production is so varied and on-point. whether its the minimal, the overlayered, the trippy, the thrashy. whether its being done by left brain, syd the kid, matt martians or ace (tylers producer credit). and at such a young age they have done plenty (a massive back catalog, clothing label, skate team, films, books, art exhibitions, world tours, and their very own sold out festival)anyway from mellowhypes latest album, numbers. i love this track! not sure who produced most likely left brainmellowhype - la bonitasome how i feel this wont be the last odd future track we will see here
russell
here's a taste of some Scottish hip-hop. Production was by UV Beatz and artists is Edinburgh boy, Wardie Burns

eggssell
aiight this was for yesterday. and so people dont think im only underground or indie (or too cool for school), here is some "pop"ular hip hop artists!this was from snoop's latest album "doggumentary", and featuring kanye and john legend. beats by kanye. nice mellow deep track. kanye beats are awesome as usual, and john legend providing his beautiful voice for a hook. as ive always said even artists that have crossed over will always have gems on their album that the record labels wont release.and since talking about more popular hip hop. i really hate the haters for it from those within the scene, that say shit like thats not gangsta enuff; or oh its all about the champagne and ladies. hip hop wasnt invented in the 90's!!!! (i.e. it did not start with gangsta or concious rap). check out all the old OG shit, it was either about the party OR whining about the grrl they want.snoop ft kanye west, john legend - eyez closed
eggssell
sticking on the kanye tip. i know everyone hates him for being a douchebag. and from what ive read he might be, but i learnt years ago to never listen to media.either way he is one of the greatest producers ever in the hip hop scene. jay z would be just some local cat if it wasnt for kanye beats.and while some of his verses can get annoying and or same same (with the word play), somehow they stick in your head. and he has some of the best lines ive ever heard!i like this one because he rhymes with so much emphasis. this was from the graduation album a few years back now. again produced by kanye. featuring john mayer (dont really know the cat other than being one of annistons exes but he a famous singer right?)kanye west ft john mayer - bittersweet poetry

eggssell
aiight so i missed a week because i was off eating croissants and shit, so will double up all this week.in honour of the french, a couple of tracks from that way.all ed banger records. Both not particularly hip hop but they do have raps in them! first up uffie, who i know gets a lot of hate. I actually quite like her, for what is essentially a pop artist. anyways here is a cover of a cover (being hers was more a cover of the chicks on speed version, which was covering a tom tom club track). beats done by the late dj mehdiuffie - wordy rappinghoodthe next one also involves dj medhi with his project with riton, and featuring kid sistercarte blanche - do! do! do! eggssell
the two for tuesday..first up from the man with iron fists soundtrack, from idle warship (talib kweli & res). i mentioned idle warship last year when they dropped their last album, which was one of the best of 2011. the beats on this track is produced by frank dukes and BADBADNOTGOOD. now i had never heard of frank dukes, but he does most of the album on the soundtrack and after some research has worked w some of my fave artists (ghostface and danny brown)idle warship - get your way (sex is a weapon)sticking on the Wu tip (well the soundtrack is for RZA's film) some old school shit!!Method man - Method Man
eggssell
the wednesday double is from Public Enemythe first one from their latest album Evil Empire. cant find any credits but i assume like most of their catalog beats are by the bomb squad (vietnam sadler and the shocklee brothers). this one features davy DMX and makes reference to his own classic track One For TreblePublic Enemy feat Davy DMX - 2 (Respect)the next one was from their second album It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold us Back. this was the first PE album i heard, my bro got it for his bday in the late 80's and i still have it. this def was done by the bomb squad. this is a great album, which many say can never be replicated due to the changes/ difficulties in clearing in samples after the historic biz markie court case. (for those that havent seen copyright criminals check it for some history).anyways this is one of my fave PE tracks. some in the dance scene may know tricky's versionPublic Enemy - Black Steel in the hour of chaosas a bonus here is a live version. filmd in the metro sydney (and yes i was there ). you can see why i love hip hop w a live band
eggssell
thursdays pickity picksdidnt take long for me to go back to odd future. now "free", earl sweatshirt dropped the vid for his first single off his first solo today. arguably wolf gangs best rapper (i still think mike G may have more flows, my personal fave is still hodgy beats). cant wait to see what this album has to offer.this one is reasonably dark and moody, but very personal. and given his slow style you can hear every word. produced by christian rich (who are the hassan brothers).earl sweatshirt - chumill stick w OF for now. here is a track from frank ocean's channel orange release. i picked the one that has earl on it, and it is one of my faves on the album. lovin the keys, and both frank and earl smash it.the beats for this track and most on the album were done by malaysian producer Malay along with Frank himslef.frank ocean feat earl sweatshirt - super rich kidsEDIT: oh another special live feature. too bad this wasnt syd and i wasnt there. was spewing frank didnt make the trip in jan, but it was still a hella show. anyways this vid was good if only the crowd shut up during earls bit
eggssell
flyday serrectiona couple of tracks from albums this year. first one from nas'latest life is good. beats by his long time collaborator salaam remi, and featuring the queen of hip hop soul mary j bligenas ft mary j blige -reach outthe next from the one touted as the next dr dre protege, kendrick lamar. though kendrick did already have a fair bit of buzz in the hip hop circles, getting the dre co-sign puts a lot of weight on his shoulders. this was from his first aftermath record release (second full release) good kid m.a.a.d. city. recording having already begun with the album, dr dre was only involved in executive producing. this track was produced by grammy awarded producer jack splash. and again features mary jkendrick lamar ft mary j blige - now or never
