overit Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 nah, the NI8 control panel is all about wether the timecode is vinyl or cd.normally i would set the ni8 routing in the preferences screen of ableton or traktor or whatever.Google hangouts doesnt have that option.I checked in the macbook system preferences and have been able to route audio from ns6 master out into the mic in on the macbook, but am still listening back thru macbook internal speakers.is annoying coz both the NI8 and NS6 show up as sound devices in the google hangout GUI. just wont work and dont seem to have any options for routing.still testing but Quote
wrxfiend Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Not sure if it would work but if you hdmi out of macbook to a monitor/tv, you could pick up your audio from the monitor/tv output and still have mic in free on the mac????? Quote
overit Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 right rob, just for that I'm a try emailing you an invite.let's see what happens for the lols!hope you get this msg buddy Quote

overit Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 oh hang about...it has to broadcast to youtube to get the better sound quality.but broadcasting on youtube leaves it prone to all the usual copyright issues youtube vids are under.this could be why is so hard to do. I'm playing tunes in the background to test sound quality, you tube is assessing those for copyright and sending me emails and blocking me and shit.back to the drawing board.fark Quote
overit Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 yes, yes we will.if it's one to one, I can make it work using google hangouts but not using the "on air" option which is the one that results in better sound quality but also auto posts to youtube (and so has copyright issues)would still need to feed mic and all audio through the dj mixer at my end and only be able to hear you thru my laptop speakers.I'm a go look at other options. wazza Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 you can try using jacks osx.... it will do all the audio & midi routing .from software to software.http://www.jackosx.com/ Quote
overit Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 that looks very interesting wazza, will try that tmrw. cheers. Quote
overit Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Progress:Havent tried wazza's link yet, gave up on google due to the youtube link/copyright issues it has.Tried skype instead. It looks like it is working using my NI8 without needing jacksosx, auto routing showing up on in/out 1/2 very clearly.DO any of you guys have skype accounts? If so, please PM the address. I'll sort a time to try and start a one to one session with ya.1st thing will just be testing audio quality for distortion and checking I can hear your voice and decks too.But this looks way better than google hangouts. overit Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Ok,SKype looks like a winner.Have tested at home and works fine although audio gets crackly when happening from two users at same time.If you want free webinar sessions with me I will give you them, but you have to understand you are beta testing for me so if a session fails due to streaming or summat you just gonna have to roll with it.1st things 1st: join skype, you'll need an email account then you make up a username and password for the skype account, confirm registration via your email account then send me your skype username.DO IT NOW! wazza Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 ok will set up my Skype to day.....how have you set this up in Skype..do you get any audio drop-outs , because i know that sometimes web-cam drivers can fuck up dj software ...I think i will use my iMac + ns7 and send the audio from my ns7 to my HP laptop thats running Skypeon another note.....vestax japan got back to me about the vestax bps 4 , the name off the new importer for vestax here in OZ is http://www.innovativemusic.com.au/ and give me a time line for when the bps 4 will be out (which I can't say )..but we might if everything go,s right have one for the ADJF meat in 2013.. overit Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 I have set skype up using my NS6 simply by choosing the audio in and out source as the NS6 in the skype preferences.I do get little dropouts but so far I have only noticed them when the people I'm talking to send audio at the same time as I am.All I want to do for now is see if we can even communicate (and hopefully share skills) using one camera each.If it looks good I'll be checking the paid versions of webinar software like gotomeeting etc.I dont want to spend money if the small screen means no one learns shit though. So beta testing for now. I aint finished yet Quote
overit Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 OK, gonna give this another go. I have my NS6 and a mic set up ready to go. I'm hoping one or more of you will listen/watch me and let me know how the sound quality/visuals are at your end.If any of you wants to do me a huge favour get your decks set up to play through your skype so i can hear return sound quality too. It's 12.42 in the afternoon UK time which I think makes it 9.42 pm W.A. 11.42pm for you NSW and other whales.Anyone there got skype?PM me your skype name right now and I'll call you at 10pm W.A. time. midnight sydney time.Mitch, you have a contact request pending already.I'm off for a cig, will be back here in 17 minutes. overit Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Scottie you are a star +repUpdate for other users: Scottie could see and hear me clearly. He didnt have his cam on so not sure how the vid works if going both ways.He played an a cappella and I could mix and scratch to it clearly without delays or latency... but it seemed I got dropouts when the bass kicked in. Could it be that volume/frequencies of music affect upload speeds - i wasnt expecting that?Scottie also said his PC is slow and he has crap upload speeds.Anyone else willing to test? pref someone with a good up/download speed, mac and a webcam so I can test under optimum conditions, but anyone is welcome to give me feedback on how it sounds and looks at their end. I def need users with webcams so I can see how the vid looks when 2 users are online, and I need people who will talk so I can hear if them talking causes dropouts to music.I'm thinking if I still get dropouts testing under optimum conditions then I need to try an alternative to Skype. If it works ok under optimum conditions then I will continue testing if the idea of doing webinars is an option. I want to figure out if anyone can actually learn shit from me online before I start researching all the heaps of "gotomeeting" type software that is available. To teach I know that users need to be able to hear my audio, hear my voice, and see what my hands are doing on my decks and I need to see and hear the same from them.Next chance I get to do this will probably be thurs 6th dec. If i come online at 10am U.K. it will be 6pm W.A. and 9pm N.S.W.f you will be around then PM me or post below pls. Thanks again Scottie. BIG UP. Quote
Scottie Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 no probs mate, happy to help some of the dropouts whiling I was playing the acapella could be due to the fact that it was a censored version, but I'm pretty sure there were some connection issues as well. Definitely need some more testing but I'm sure that everything should be okay once the kinks are worked out. Only thing is that I was playing music through my controller which means that users need to plug the mic into that or their mixer/soundcard/whatever, rather than being able to use an inbuilt one on a laptop (at the same time). Otherwise they'd have to switch back and forward between them in the settings on skype which could be a hassle. Quote
overit Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 true dat,i had my mic thru my controller too, i think that is the best way for users to do it. Skype recognised my controller as an in and out audio source in the skype preferences options.I also had to turn my speakers down to avoid mic feedback.I also think i need one of those daft headphone with mic headsets so I dont have to hold the mic all the time.wheels are turning but Quote
