overit Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 function is function mate.Unless this firm is different to all other corporate functions the crowd will be a cross section of ages, incomes, attitudes and tastes from the executive director to the girls from the typing pool etc.Do the meeting with the boss before you decide anything. Be prepared to act confident whatever he says then do your research.Personally I reckon he'll say top 40, chart and "a bit of everything good."In my experience the best you can normally expect from a corporate is to please most of the people most of the time, using classics, cheese and anthems...most people won't be happy if they don't know the songs... then once the crowd has thinned later on you may be able to work out a type of music they kind of agree on and actually get some mixing in there. lloydc Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 deep things will go down well, keep it lower volume at the start of the night and make sure it's background music.i'd then be looking at going down the 'soulful road' .... check this shit http://randomsoulmusic.com/podcasts/ (those guys are aussie and top lads too)chuck some tech house in there and also come armed with some popular stuff (including non edm) Quote
andyman Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Deep things > vocal things > cheese > living on a prayer Quote

mattus123 Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 Perfectthats kind of what i was planning but i wasnt too sure as i havent been to a function like this beforeCheers lads!! Quote
Tomy Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 do the meeting with the boss. at least you'll know. better then having 450 pissed off drunks.eighties, nineties and hit of today is really what your going to have to do. its a corporate function. I would also recommend buying the track list of chill out sessions or two for the start of the night as people generally know these tracks eg: moby, dido, Groove Armada, etc, etc Quote
mattus123 Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 http://soundcloud.com/matty-whells/poolside-mixI wanted to make a mix to take into the boss to show him where my train of thought is goingi feel this will give him a basic idea of starting the night with chilled tunes and then later in the night build it up a bitWhat do you guys think of something like this? Quote
Mitch Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 just had a listen, was chill. digged it.good for a first mix with this sort of stuff Quote
