yeah lloyd the asus one that drc1 found is solid dood.

but yeah the alienware gaming ones are ridiculously priced.

so i take it u want something like a 17" screen?

it seemed appealing at first, but i wanted the following:

i7

8gb+ ram

1tb

hi res screen

decent batterylife

capable of playing the odd game at decent settings

bluray

portable

not ugly

I bought a dell XPS 15 this morning and it ticks all boxes, except bluray.

I was also considering going down the SSD road, or even lappys with two drives. the downfall of that was either lack of storage or cost, and when you were talking laptops with multiple drives, you were also talking 4KG or so, which kills the portability criteria... a 17" also adds size and weight

the XPS was the best option, and they are doing them at $400 off at the moment, so cost me $1650 with an upgrade to windows pro :)

That's a pretty sick price!

However it says something about purchasing warranty though dell, but im not really sure how.

Mitch perhaps you can shed some light on this?

Its not a new laptop, its used and supposedly being 'reconditioned'. What grays policy is on a reconditioned laptop is unknown to me.

as for warranty you have 30 days after you buy it to transfer the computer from grays online's name into your own name (at this link: http://www.dell.com/support/retail/us/e ... tifySystem) and buy warranty on the machine.

personally i wouldn't buy it, rather just go new and know nothing is being fucked with

I was in the market for a new laptop as at the end of the year I'll be travelling + contract working around the globe so I wanted something bigger than a 13" MBA but portable.

Just picked up an Asus N56VM (i7, 4GB, 750GB, Full HD screen, Nvidia GT630, Blu-ray) for $1200 including a extra 1 year asus warranty. Currently installing my own Windows 7 copy on there now :)

They all look good for price, but personally for me they all lack a full HD screen, anything less than 1920x1080 and I don't want anything to do with it now days

Hmmm... Cannot vouch for the vendor but to me this seems like an awesome deal...

http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=9938&osCsid=d0199ec237cecabe158633eabfe79459

15.6" Asus N56VM R501VM-SPECIAL $1,399.00

Features :

FREE Ext. Subwoofer

Core i7 3610QM ~3.3GHz

16GB DDR3 RAM / 750GB SATA HDD

2GB NVIDIA® GT630M

Bluray Combo / DVD Writer

Wireless N / Bluetooth

HDMI / USB3.0

Windows 7 Premium 64bit

2 Years Global Warranty

Special Features:

Built-in Wireless Display

Full HD 1920x1080 Res.

To me a Bluray drive should now be standard. They are cheap now. 16Gb ram is massive and more than you will need. Plus a full HD (1080) screen on 15" monitor.

An equivalently specced Dell XPS is north of $1600. And I personally like Asus Laptops (along with higher spec Dells)

I went the Full HD screen!

http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/produc ... eabfe79459

I bought the Asus that DRC1 found yesterday. Havent used it yet but after alooooot of searching around, its still the best deal ive found so far. and they even gave me a $50 instore discount.

If your after something as powerful and dont care for the HD screen i found a lenovo at the same store that has the same specs

for only $999.00

Like i said i cant find anything at that price for these specs.

THANKYOU DRC1 :thumleft:
