bonez99er Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Friday 31st August Chinese Laundry Bass Mafia are proud to present an artist regarded by many as one of the finest electronic music producers of his generation, PHOTEK.A fixture on the UK jungle scene since the early nineties, Photek a.k.a. Rupert Parkes is best known for his role in developing the “intelligent” drum & bass genre. Over the course of his career as Photek, Parkes has developed a sound that is simultaneously individual, innovative and accessible, earning him much respect and popularity amongst critics and music fans alike. The strength of the sound finds foundation in Photek’s incredibly detailed drum programming, which is then augmented by his sophisticated sense for combining abstract sounds with jazz and classic techno influences. This will be a really special night in the cave with Photek promising to play a broad and diverse spectrum of bass music ranging from 110 - 170 bpm.Set Times Laundry 10:00 - Struz 11:30 - kyro & Bomber 01:00 - Vengeance 02:30 - Kombat Cave - Hosted by Symmetry 10:00 - Damien Osborne & Nick Robins ( Symmetry) 11:30 - Boot ( The Abyss ) 01:00 - PHOTEK (UK) 02:30 - Andrew Wowk http://www.facebook.com/PhotekMusichttp://soundcloud.com/photek/http://www.dj-kicks.com/photek-dj-kicks/http://www.kmag.co.uk/editorial/feature ... w-0711.htmL.A. based and British born Photek enjoyed considerable success throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium with his own mutant breed of jungle and drum 'n' bass. Much of his early work (under a variety of aliases) proved to be big club favourites, but it wasn't until 1997 when he released his now-classic debut album 'Modus Operandi' that Photek truly arrived. Its style is the apex of his '90s sound science – atmospheric, but at the same time very cold and paranoid, consisting mostly of jazz-influenced, highly complex drum patterns and sequenced double bass lines, sometimes with minimalistic synth melodies on top. Three years after Modus Operandi, Photek delivered follow-up album "Solaris", which featured the legendary Robert Owens, and surprised many a listener with clear Chicago house and techno influences. Four years between releases and he switched styles again, with 2 killer EP’s and with an extensive touring schedule taking him from Glade to Glasto, a new Photek sound was introduced to the world, combining a rich past in jungle with his well-known love of ambient textures, his experience in cinematic soundtracks and a fresh enthusiasm for the current tempos that are lighting up the world’s most exciting clubs. His Avalanche EP explored dubstep with inspiration from the harsher, heavier side of the genre, with huge LFO basslines that snake and undulate slowly, ferociously bulldozing their way through, while ‘Aviator’ saw him venture into brooding, minimal dubstep, edged with grimey beats.Photek’s DJ-Kicks, released April of this year, has been hailed as one of the highlights of the series. He’s hit the road to support the release, including prime slots at the Movement and Together festivals, and we are thrilled to have secured the legendary producer for an exclusive Sydney show at Chinese Laundry .Guestlist Entry Fee - $15 before 11pm & $20 after , contact details as per my signature OR just mention ' Scott's List ' via the Guestlist line on the night for Guestlist Entry Triple J Radio Mix by Vengeance http://soundcloud.com/vengeance_dj/trip ... dio-mix-byPhotek Summer Mix http://soundcloud.com/photek/may-mixFact Mix 226: Photek http://www.mixcloud.com/FACTMixArchive/ ... 26-photek/Interview with Photek http://pulseradio.net/articles/2012/08/ ... man-in-l-a Quote
